The Chameleon - an HG Quasiclass A quasiclass is an atypical class combination that gains special abilities once it meets certain requirements. They still gain all the normal benefits of the classes they take, and get special bonuses if they meet the requirements of a quasiclass.
Chameleon Quasiclass
Requirements: Must have 13 levels in a tier 1 class (Arcane Archer, Barbarian, Blackguard, Champion of Torm, Dwarven Defender, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger or Weapon Master), 13 levels in a tier 2 class (Assassin, Bard, Cleric, Red Dragon Disciple, Druid, Harper Scout, Monk, Rogue, Shadowdancer or Shifter) and 13 levels in a tier 3 class (Pale Master, Sorcerer or Wizard). NOTE! If you qualify for another quasiclass BEFORE you qualify for the Chameleon quasiclass, you will NOT be able become a Chameleon!
Benefits:
On achieving Chameleon status at level 39 or 40, the Chameleon is given a Chameleon item which allows him to use Chameleon powers.
Chameleon powers:
Using the Chameleon item will allow the Chameleon to enter Chameleon mode. In this mode, the Chameleon will automatically have 15 base class levels added to his active class, along with having his control class changed to the active class (if it isn't already). A Chameleon's Legendary Levels (if any) will benefit his active class as currently described for the appropriate control class. The active class is initially set to the Chameleon's base control class, but can be changed to any of his three classes using the SIMtools commands !tier1, !tier2 or !tier3.
Note that even with the addition of 15 class levels while in Chameleon mode, the Chameleon will NOT be able to qualify for Epic Spells or any other class benefit requiring more than 14 class levels.
The energy required to maintain the Chameleon mode is too great for the Chameleon to remain in Chameleon mode for long periods of time. The Chameleon is only able to maintain his Chameleon mode for 1 round/character level (including Legendary levels - if any). Any number of the Chameleon's three forms can be utilized before the Chameleon needs to rest to recharge his ability.
Class drawbacks: 1) No Epic spells 2) No control class benefits that start at more than 14 levels 3) Maximum class level benefits will be 28 or 29 + LL's, as opposed to a "pure" build getting 40 + LL's. 3) Duration of the quasi benefit is rest-restricted 4) Won't be able to be great at each of the three classes due to spreading ability points, feats & skills too thin to attempt maxing each.
Class appeals: 1) Extreme build diversity - 78 build options! 2) Very high number of strategy options for multiple situations 3) Convenience of having three classes available at any one time. Class idea: Rog14/Wiz13/AA13 - Buff self/party as a level 48 Mage, switch to a level 48 AA for distance attacks, open chests as a level 49 Rogue at the end!
Got this idea after thinking about how the modders were trying to reduce maxing a character as the only way to build now. Hopefully in this environment 28/29 base levels will still be very useful …
