The lancer fills the role of a melee type glass cannon. Although not intended to be a primary tank, he offers much support through swift and brutal attacks.
Requirements:
Class: 13 Rogue and 5 WM by 25
Feats: Weapon of Choice (Spear), Dirty Fighting, and Improved Sneak Attack I
Precision Thrust: [Available when character first becomes a lancer] The dirty fighting feat, when activated, offers the Lancer different benefits from the original feat:
The character's attacks are dropped to one per round, the attack is an auto hit (The AC and Concealment of the target have no affect on whether he hits or misses), and the attack does his regular attack damage but also applies a unique wounding to the enemy. For the next three rounds the enemy will recieve the overall sneak damage of the lancer in unresistable physical damage (sneak damage from improved sneak attack feats are also included in determining damage). These "Wounds" begin to bleed cumulatively up to three times in one round due to the fact that the affect continues for three rounds. Example: The lancer has 19d6 sneak attack and has been in dirty fighting mode vs. a monster for three rounds and now the monster is taking maximum wound damage. He damages the monster 127 with his weapon and then the three different wounds take affect, each rolling a seperate 19d6 dice - the monster takes 110, 94 and finally a 75.
Backstep: [Available when the character first becomes a lancer and only takes affect when no shield is equiped and is disabled for lancers who are multiclassed with monk] The character uses his lance's length to your full advantage, backsteping away from foe's to avoid potentially lethal attacks. The character gains shield ac equal to his overall lancer level divided by three for a total of twenty at level 60. (Lancer Level/3) = x; X being the number of shield AC gained.
Flourish I: at level 40 rogue, the lancer gains an additional attack.
Flourish II: at level 50 rogue, the lancer gains an additional attack.
Flourish III: at level 55 rogue. the lancer gains an additional attack.
[These only take affect if the lancer has a spear equiped and will not stack with clockwork boots or harper scout secret]
Fortify Lance: [Available when the character first becomes a lancer] The lancer enhances his weapon. The ability will only affect the lancer's weapon. Higher levels increase the amount of enhancement:
Level; Enhancement
1-40; +11
44; +12
48; +13
52; +14
56; +15
60; +16
Upon achieving level 50 lancer, the character recieves the feat Devastating Critical Spear for free.
Pros: The character will be able to dish out large amounts of damage quickly, especially while flanking targets with sneak damage. Depending on his situation he can switch between dirty fighting mode or regular combat. The excess damage and accuracy of Precision Thrust will make it the ideal boss-fighting mode for the lancer. Fighting with a tank will allow the lancer's flanking prowess to truly shine.
Cons: Being control class rogue as a strength tank will hurt the characters hp, making him have to play more of a support role than a primary tank. In addition, his ac will also be mediocre, further enforcing the idea of him being a support character. He will be unable to recieve full Base attack before twenty due to rogue, which is also not a full base attack control class.
