Bumping this just to say: Thanks a lot, Hackenslay! It works perfectly. And thanks to GOG: They delivered the CD-Key within 5 hours.

Honestly, I'd love to be able to run 2 instances of the game at once, but don't know how to do it short of using 2 different computers (something that's entirely unfeasible for me). And from what I understand, this 'Dual Boxing' is taking one computer and having it run 2 instances of NwN at a time on two different screens. Is that right?
No matter how this works, I'm gathering that you need 2 CD key sets to do this. Would that also require 2 login names? I'm assuming the answer to this is yes, but still it doesn't hurt to ask. Further, can this be done with a laptop? (assuming it can handle the added load, and presumably having an extra monitor to use for it) If so, how?

You need a second CD Key and can run it on one PC and one installation via the scripts in this thread. And, yes, you crate a second login name. With windowed mode, you can run both on the same monitor (should be best a large one).

All right - figured out the first few steps... but what's this .bat file? How do I make one of those?

Make a new textfile like Newtextfile.txt and name it Newbatfile.bat.

A .bat file is a set of commands for the computer. I haven't read the earlier posts recently, but I think the text of that bat file is prettymuch what is in the post. To create a bat file you use notepad or wordpad (or equivilent/simllar for UNIX) and save the file with a .bat instead of .txt extension.
Forget what I said about UNIX. I don't think it uses .bat files and the commands would be different.

aye, on linux it would be a shell script and the commands changed accordingly like you said.

Tried this and it runs two instances, but when i try to log into the second instance with the other account, it give me the cdkey in use error so it is still trying to use the same cdkey even though both are in the NWN folder. Am i missing something easy?
Question: the playername.txt file that has nothing in it except my playername ie ddboy75, and i create another with the alternate account in it but how do i put them both in nwn folder if they are both called "playername"?

Copied my NWN folder and ran one instance with cdkey1 and account 1, and it worked for that one. Ran the second instance from the second folder using cdkey2 and account2 and i can log to different servers, but not the same server. It gives me a timeout.
Using windows vista machine.

regarding the timeout, i believe this is caused by both instances using them same port (for example 5121). search the .ini files in the main nwn folder for a line where you can change this and use a different one for your alternate account.

Did that, so thats not it but maybe i will confirm what I have done and let me know if you see something obvious because a few of the steps had me rereading - removed my nwncdkey file from the NWN folder, made a copy called ddboy75.cdkey and one called Kleo24.cdkey and put them both in the NWN file; - removed my nwnplayer.ini file and added one called ddboy75.ini and one called Kleo24.ini; changed the port on Kleo24 to 5121; - created 2 .bat files according to the instructions, one for ddboy75 and one for Kleo24 and put them both in the NWN folder; - WHen creating the text document called "playername.txt", i put ddboy75 in it and that is all, and place this text file in the NWN folder. Do i have to create a second one for Kleo24? if so, i can't call it playername.txt because you obviously can't have 2 files named the same in the same folder. This is where i might be off. So i add all these files to the NWN folder and remove the original NWN cdkeys, nwnplayer.ini files from the folder? THanks for any help on this!

it's easiest if you just keep all the files with the correct names and put them in sub directories, then just copy in the correct .ini files before running the game .exe.
I have 15 keys and 15 accounts. My batch file is pretty simple.
copy "C:\G\O\NWN\Alternate instance\12\nwnplayer.ini" "C:\G\O\NWN\Game Directory\nwnplayer.ini" copy "C:\G\O\NWN\Alternate instance\12\nwncdkey.ini" "C:\G\O\NWN\Game Directory\nwncdkey.ini" copy "C:\G\O\NWN\Alternate instance\12\nwn.ini" "C:\G\O\NWN\Game Directory\nwn.ini" C: cd \ cd "G\O\NWN\Game Directory" nwmain.exe
Keep in mind that each instance on a network/computer needs to run on a different port. The batch files are primarily for port changes. You also can't have 2 toons from the same account on one server, they must be in separate accounts. Also in Win7, you aren't able to run these batches from the start menu
