Furax Umbra (lat. thievish shadow)
An open subrace Shadowdancer - 4 Rogue, 6 Paladin, 30 Shadowdancer
The Shadowdancer has some HG specific custom changes, a full list can be found in the Class/Ability/Spell Customizations subforum. Most noteworthy are:
- Shadow Evade: Unlimited use at SD level 20, provides conceal and damage reduction, grants unlimited etherealness (like Greater Sanctuary) at SD level 40.
- Shadow Rift: Finding a certain item will allow Shadowdancers to enchant their melee weapon with Shadow Rift, which will add dices of negative damage on hit.
- Shadow Daze: A long range daze attack that course enemies with a course similar to curse song (drops AB by 6 and AC by 7 at character level 60). Shadow Daze is also excellent to pull enemies.
- Shadow Step: Immortal characters with at least 25 Shadowdancer class levels can now find the Shadow Step ability. This ability, once acquired, allows you to teleport as a swift action to targets within Medium range. You will automatically enter Shadow Sanctuary when using Shadow Step. Some targets (such as bosses) cannot be teleported to. Shadow Step can be found somewhere very black.
Hint: To find the required class secrets, you can ask the people ingame with the !newbie command.
Last but not least: They have a summon - which is maxed at this build. Yummy!
This shadowdancer is a dexer (as most Shadowdancers) with Shield and therefore has very high AC (about 137 AC). Furthermore he has conceal 60 % (all numbers are given for this character at level 60 in the following) and the epic Dodge feat that allow you to avoid the first hit in a round that normally would have hit you. The high saves of 63, 81, 59 are upgraded with the Improved Evasion and the Slipper Mind feats. The Furax Umbra has max. Discipline, Tumble and some points in concentration for nasty skill checks in game. As a result of all these features + Shadow Step and unlimited etherealness, the dex-based Shadowdancer is one of the hardest to kill characters at all (in my opinion).
The AB of the Furax Umbra is 95 which is not that high; but that is typical for Shadowdancers. This build takes Blindfight (equivalent to 63 Listen) to beat conceal. The Shadow Rift ability helps a bit to increase damage output.
Beside the normal task of a shadowdancer (tanking, course enemies, survive and resurrect people), the Furax Umbra is also a “full Rogue”. He has maxed search, disable traps and open locks skills. And skillpoints in UMD to use scrolls.
Hint: An item or augumenter with Improved Critical (Rapier) would be helpful for more damage of the Furax Umbra. Maybe you are lucky and find something like that ingame.....
Class choices:
-Rogue: Rogue is the only class capable of disarming traps with a DC greater than 35. Therefore, you need at least 1 level of Rogue.
-Paladin: Gives Paladin saves bonus, fear and disease immunity. And +1 BAB.
-Shadowdancer: This is a Shadowdancer build, the more Shadowdancer levels the better. For maxed Shadowdancer levels 50, Shadow Evade grants an additional attack and the soak is 20/+15. (nearly every monster has +14 weapons in hells and other end game arias, so a +15 is really needed)
Race
Base Race: Elf
Subrace: "Grey Elf": INT +2, STR -2, hide +2, move silently +2
- Elfes get +2 dex and -2 con at start
- Elfes are immune to sleep and have Keen Sense (that helps with searching)
- To max the rogue skills the able learner feat of Elfes is used, this build is therefore an Elf. Details of able learner: All elves can raise any cross-class skill to 31 (the normal level 60 limit) starting at level 41 for the normal 2 points per rank. For skills which are cross-class for their control class but which are class skills for one of their other classes, elves may raise them to the normal class skill limit for 3 points per rank above 31 in legendary levels. These skill ranks may not be taken on the same level as ordinary 2-point cross-class skill ranks; a skill must first be increased to 31 before it can be raised past 31 on a later level.
