Higher Ground has lots of equipment designed to assist single classes. These items boost skills, abilities or grant feats that make the character more effective. Some examples are: Tool Belt (rogue skills), Clerics Coil, Neophyte’s Hope, Wizards Loop, Oakroot Buckle, Zephyr’s Song, Quickening Earth (Ability increase, spells, caster skills).
I haven’t seen much equipment designed to assist shifters. The Oakroot Buckle and Quickening Earth have druid spell slots, but this does not assist shifters because the slots are lost when the character shifts and spells can’t be cast while shifted. Spell Focus feats do not help with shifted forms that cast spells.
The things that would help shifters most would be increases in essence points (EP) or form focuses. More EP would increase power the way spell slots increase caster power, by allowing more uses of the special powers. Coding or designing an EP increase is difficult. It would have to add a replenishment of the EP pool during rest, remove the increase if the item granting it is removed and balance the extra EP between several shapes. This sounds like quite a job. Form focuses would increase DC, similar to the effect of Legendary Form Focuses. I think the +1 DC increase I was thinking of is granted by shifter ego augments. Asking for another item property that matches an ego augment sounds like a waste of electrons.
So I am proposing a belt that increases the shifter’s primary stat (Wisdom), three skills that would be of benefit (Animal Empathy to increase effect of special powers, Concentration to help avoid spell failure caused by taking damage and Discipline to avoid normal KD and called shot checks), some useful feats, regeneration (always useful) and increased armor class.
Here is the Chameleon’s Cummerbund series:
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +1: (Not submitted – would be lower level than minimum shifter)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +2: Wisdom +2, AC +2, Animal Empathy +2, Concentration +2, Discipline +2. (Level 11)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +3: Wisdom +3, AC +3, Animal Empathy +3, Concentration +3, Discipline +3. (Level 16)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +4: Wisdom +4, AC +4, Animal Empathy +4, Concentration +4, Discipline +4. (Level 19)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +5: Wisdom +5, AC +5, Animal Empathy +5, Concentration +5, Discipline +5, Spell Penetration, Regen +2. (Level 22)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +6: Wisdom +6, AC +6, Animal Empathy +6, Concentration +6, Discipline +6, Spell Penetration, Combat Casting, Regen +3. (Level 24)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +7: Wisdom +7, AC +7, Animal Empathy +7, Concentration +7, Discipline +7, Spell Penetration, Combat Casting, True Seeing, Regen +4. (Level 28)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +8: Wisdom +8, AC +8, Animal Empathy +8, Concentration +8, Discipline +8, Spell Penetration, Combat Casting, True Seeing, Spell Focus Conjuration, Regen +5. (Level 31)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +9: Wisdom +9, AC +9, Animal Empathy +9, Concentration +9, Discipline +9, Spell Penetration, Combat Casting, True Seeing, Spell Focus Conjuration, Regen +5. (Level 36)
Chameleon’s Cummerbund +10: Wisdom +10, AC +10, Animal Empathy +10, Concentration +10, Discipline +10, Spell Penetration, Combat Casting, True Seeing, Spell Focus Conjuration, Regen +5. (Level 38)
