Ugh. After 15 minutes of having started the game, it consistently crashes, often taking my pc with it and rewarding me with a blue screen. This only happens when playing nwn, hg (the only nwn I play). Other games, movies, other software and devices....all runs smooth. Everything is updated as per hg wiki. Did multiple different pc and virus scans and nothing. Found a bad 6to4 microsoft adapter that wasn't there before and uninstalled it, but that was the only thing wrong with my system and I don't see what it would have to do with HG. Running as administrator (the only way it works at all). OS is Vista and never had problems with HG prior to right now. Finally able to spend some time here and my pc craps out. Please help.

Did you do any new video driver updates? What does the blue screen say is faulting and does it have an error code?

The blue screen says windows cannot load something or other to/from drivers. I'll have to write it all down next time it happens. No new video driver updates, maybe thats the problem? If its any help, when its just nwn that crashes my character becomes a bright golden outline of a character and the screen just freezes.

Ok did the driver updates and now it crashes at various points during os startup and the computer just running. I am probably going to just go and get a new box and fix this one later, maybe just use it for tv and movies etc. The error message that comes up when i reboot after a crash is:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033
Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 50 BCP1: FE7F7000 BCP2: 00000001 BCP3: 926E7183 BCP4: 00000000 OS Version: 6_0_6000 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1

Doesn't say anything about a driver that I can see on your message, try a scandisk and see if it comes up with any errors.
If that's clean then I'd be looking at memory as a possible culprit.
Also if you are using Windows update its entirely possible there has been a hardware driver update that's 'borked' your system that wasn't obvious at the time of installation.

Yeah I almost never do hardware driver updates via windows I only use the drivers off manufacturer web sites.

Have you lost power on your machine recently?
How long ago did this start (as near as you can tell)?
Since you're getting problems elsewhere, is DirectX up to date? Or...
Would you go to your command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" if none of the above is the case or as no influence to the problem?
Post again when you've got some more information.

Two obvious things I shoulda thought of first:
1. The diatamatious earth we recently used to get rid of fleas from the dogs.
2. The power cord nest behind my computer desk.
Took cover off box, thoroughly air-dusted the guts. Moved the pc to a different outlet and got rid of the rats nest- the pc has its own dedicated power outlet, speakers, monitor etc are plugged into a strip.
I just hopped on server 3 and into hades for a test and was doing great. Wife comes along and pulls internet connection out of the pc "You agreed to not play that game until the kids are in bed". By the time I can plug the internet back in, the toon is limbo'd and looses a nicely randomized introweave cloak. Wife death.
But considering that I was playing for about 15 minutes prior to her cruel intervention, I am thinking one of the physical things I did has corrected the problem.
Idea for elder evils miniboss: the Untamed Shrew.
If I keep having problems I'll post further info. Thanks for the help!

Im not sure we can help you with your new problem though I suspect many HG have some advice for dealing with evil spouses.

lol..I have a plan to actually have her PLAY the game with me, that way she loves it as a part of time spent with her instead of hates it as time taken away from being spent with her. She wants me to make the toons and do the leveling (the actual selection of feats and all that) and she just wants to select weapons, gear, and click and kill. Works for me!
