Hi all. by now you all probably know what happened in oslo, Norway a few weeks ago. A terrorist with goals of punishing a certain group of politicians, for what he feels like in failure on keeping Norway a white and pure country. He managed to assemble a bomb, detonate it and from there he drove straight to a youth camp and started massacre young people in cold blood. He dressed himself out as a police officer, luring them out and gunned them down in cold blood, not caring one bit if he shoot them in the back or not. All this while listening to his Ipod and music. He got caught after killing almost 100 people in total. when the task force arrived, he stood there waiting for them and surrendered without a fight. like the coward he is. Now this man still has a strategy which is to spread his meaning, trying to become some kind of martyr, a world know man for his actions or someting like that .... He is probably never going to be released in his life time. what I fail to see is how he can be in a position to demand things. - He demanded a open hearing allowing press to be part of it
- He wants internet so he can post his thoughts and probably brag about the actions done.
- he demands specific food in prison, not cooked by muslins or the possibility to get some halal meat without his knowing.
I mean comon, he butchered nearly 100 people without regrets, destroyed hundreds of families life's and friendships were terminated way to soon. Sometimes I cant help wondering if these sort of people really get the punishment they have earned. I know a similar terrorist in the US a few years ago, got executed for those actions. Sadly, in Norway we don´t got lifetime sentence. Our strongest punishment is 21 years. I am not trying to start a debate about life time or not. there are ppl in here much more qualified for those terms, but sometimes I wish there would be some other way, hurting a man like this where it hurts the most. I am speaking of heavily humiliation in public or something like that, make his actions seems like a mad mans work, so no one of his sympathizers pick up where he left off. Last I want to point out that the press has found out that he played a lot of World of Warcraft. To me it is a shame that the press brings up that old discussion weather or not computer games are the reason for those kind of actions. I think there are completely different things making someone do these kind of deeds. I have been following the news, been to the memorial of the fallen and cant help thinking if this man will get the right punishment for what he has done. some of the things said "terror can defeat a man, but it can never defeat a nation" "we will fight terror with love" are some of the things that makes democracy so strong.... I hope I will never experience something like this again, although I am not harmed, nor did know anyone of the victims at all. Hercie |

Obviously sorry is not really a strong enough word when things like this happen but I have to admit I did think about you when I heard this happening.
I guess the best you can hope for is that they'll find him insane (which to be honest he must be) in which case I suspect he can be locked away indefinitely.

If it were up to me, I would put him in an isolation cell for the rest of his life, with only the bare minimum of food and drink to survive. And most importantly: deny him all human contact.
However, I would never sink down to his level and use public humiliation, direct physical torture or a straight-out execution.

Obviously sorry is not really a strong enough word when things like this happen but I have to admit I did think about you when I heard this happening. I guess the best you can hope for is that they'll find him insane (which to be honest he must be) in which case I suspect he can be locked away indefinitely. As I understand it, he will get the maximum years in Norwegian law. This would be 21 years + hearing. This means that every time he is up for release, the hearing board will evaluate if it is safe to put him back on the streets. Lets pray ( and I truly hope) no one will ever grant him this oppurtunity... Herc |

There is a new law in Norway now, part of Norways cooperation with other european countries that can convict a man for "crimes against humanity" with a maximun sentence of 30 years.
It is likely that this man will be tried after this paragraph, which would give him 9 more years compared to the normal maximum sentence in Norway, which Hercules correctly noted is 21 years.
There is also something called "forvaring" (which could be translated to detainment) which with 100% certainty will be applied in this particular case. In reality this means that a decision will be made if the person is fit for normal life in society after a given time. If deemed not to, he can still be kept in prison even though he has served the sentence.
Long story short: This man will never be free again.
Words can not describe the evil this man have commited. It is touching to see the literal sea of flowers from the norwegians supporting love, democracy and empathy to others rather than terrorism and acts of evil.
There is a young girl who survived the Terror at Utøya, who said the following words (Translated to english):
"If one man can spread so much hatred, think about all the love we others can show together."
These are truly words to live by in my humble opinion.
PS. Both me, my brother Herc, our friends and loved ones are all ok and unharmed from this mad man.

What makes an act like this even more difficult to stomach is the fact that the actual victims were essentially irrelevant to this guy. Like most terrorism, for the terrorist this is about the audience, and the impact the act has on them. The list of victims goes far beyond those killed and injured and their friends and loved ones.
With respect to retribution, no punishment can possibly balance the scales here. Maybe the 9th circle of hell in Dante's Inferno, with Satan chewing on his face for all eternity like that of Judas Iscariot. But not in this world.
This case is a little unusual, in that the terrorist allowed himself to be taken alive - more commonly the perpetrator would commit suicide on his own or suicide by cop. So society does get a chance to confront him, but I don't see this fostering much healing. Given that there is no doubt about guilt here, I would favor swift, no-nonsense execution. But the point would be preventing him from doing further harm by either word or deed. Peace for the large number of victims will have to come from other sources.

I don't know how prison is in Norway.
I can tell u (not from experience duh) but here in The Netherlands prison isn't that bad from the way i see it the only thing u can't do is getting out u have free tv u can work there study good food free showers own room etc...
U guys proberly know the suspect of the killing on aruba the Girl Natalee Holloway. Joran van der sloot. He is suspect of another kill in cuba. Locked away in a prison in Cuba the Castro Castro prison. It seems it is the hardest prison in the world 20 poeple in on cel or more......
But not for him he gets his own cell tv special food and hell what els.....
So i can understand how u feel Herc can a killer gets what he deserved? And what is the right thing?
Lock him away, deadpenalty , 30 years or mental institution for life?
You can never give him what he deserved it will never be enough. The only thing that makes it right would be bring all poeple back from the death. But that whe can not......

The most disturbing thought is that some mother &/ father raised that guy to think & act like that. My God, what a tragedy. Sadly, the victim's families - as tax payers, will provide 3 hot meals and a place to sleep for this monster for the duration of his sentence. I'm with funky on this one, not in a spirit of vengeance, but with regard for the safety of society this animal should be euthanized.

I dont think he was raised this way from his parents.
There have been some strong reactions from those, where they dont want anything to do with his action, nor him.
As I understand it, his belives have grown over many years, and he has been active debating bout this in open forums.
IIRC, there has also been raised flags of warning bout his relativly openminded ideas.
All this makes it even more tragic.
I am also with Funky on this one, although it seems far to easy punishment for the horror he has created.

Things like this are sad
Peoples like this guy not worth to be treat like human anymore, as have this kind of person pass the rest of is life in jail is absurd in my thinking, peoples will have to pay for years this mean they will have to use them worktime to win mony to pay for this beast instead to use this money or the time to be with them family and friends
Even in most of country jails are more like a club med then a real bad place where no one wanna to be put in. This kind of peoples should lose all his human right and instead to send him to jail or a sentence of death they should be send to be a laboratory cobaye and use to test things who are forbiden to use animals, then instead to cost $$$ this will be free and who know may be make the science progess
