I am not using multiple installations of NWN here, but after unzipping the HGX Beta and running HGX.EXE for the very first time one can overwrite the preset NWN installation path. Another option is to use an SQL editor and edit some variables in a table in the file settings.db but this is more complex. Yeah, that is the screen I cannot get to. it cycles saying it's looking for nwn (in the log file) but never loads (the form is greyed out). If settings.db is really a db file, what is it? sqlite probably? What's the table structure? once I get one working I can work on the others. My nwn structre looks like: C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem2\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem3\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Delta\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Zapp Pfft\NWN\ None of these show in my registry (where hgx appears to be looking). In my registry is an entry from GoG that does not exist on my system. Cheers

This is the location of both ARF2 folder and HGX folder C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN I have put hgx as the subfolder in one of my directories, but it still cannot make it into the initial settings form sadly.

I don't think HGX looks at the registry. I don't have the registry entries but was able to get it working.
Suggestion #1: Do you have a file called Hgx.exe.config? If so, you can open it up in Wordpad or Notepad and manually edit the following entries to point to the right location: <add key="NwnPath" value="G:\NWN\NWN" /> <add key="NwnLogPath" value="G:\NWN\NWN\.\logs" />
Suggestion #1.5: HGX will always launch the file in "NwnPath" called nwmain.exe. So make sure that your main executable is called nwmain.exe, and not something like nwmain-169-hg.exe. Note that "NwnExecutable" entry in the .config file does not appear to be functional.
Suggestion #2: Go to nwmain.exe, right click and make it run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3, with administrator rights.
Suggestion #3: (For 64 bit Windows) Copy and paste this, change the directory values to match your installation, save as "bioware64.reg" and add NWN to your registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\NWN]

(For 32 Bit Windows)

I don't know if these will fix your problem, but it's worth a shot.

The log file clearly states it is using the entries from the registry and when I change the entries, it picks up the changes that I make. Where do you add the "<add key="..... parts in the Hgx.exe.config file? I do not have them in my config file and placing them in several different locations yielded nothing. thanks for the help

Just to be sure,
I take it you are fulfilling the requirements:
.NET Framework 4.0 or .Net Framework 4.0 Client Profile Administrator privileges if you use Windows Vista or Windows 7
Is it a first time install of HGX at all or is the HGX stable running and you are hitting these problems just while upgrading to the HGX Beta 2.8.5
And yes, the settings.db is just an sqlite file with one single table SETTINGS in it, but I think your HGX.EXE doesn't come that far to write something to that file at that early stage of crashing.

Yeah, I am running hgx successfully already. I'm just trying to upgrade. I'm just heading in to work at the moment, but I will try after work to see if I can get this to run. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I am running hgx successfully already. I'm just trying to upgrade. I didn't realize this-- I haven't tried the beta version. Salek knows a lot more than I do about this, btw, so listen to him

There is one thing that annoys me.
When i look at detailed status of the mobs/players, the window keep get resizing itself due damage types columns, and the passing arrows move up and down. Is there anyway to fix the size of the window?

C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem2\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Mayhem3\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Delta\NWN\ C:\NeverwinterNights\Zapp Pfft\NWN\ So I believe I have everything up and working now. I have to go on a run to verify this, but I have successfully launched each of the 5 clients using Hgx.exe and it loaded the clients correctly without crashing. To do this, I had to do a couple of things. I needed 3 keys in settings.db to be filled (which I had to fiddle with forever to get right). Getting the first setup to run was the hard part. After that, I just needed to copy the hgx folder to each of the other installations and edit the settings.db file to correct the 3 keys. To build the initial settings.db file, I had to edit my registry and then follow up editing the settings.db file till everything was correct. I did edit the registry keys as was suggested in another reply. That is what allowed me to run Hgx.exe enough to read the log and figure out what was changing. I placed my hgx folder as a subfolder in each of the installations. I used SQLiteStudio to locate and edit the settings.db file from each installation. I edited the following keys: Nwn.Logs Nwn.Path Nwn.Executable After this was done, they appeared to work. I have NOT gone back from a fresh install and simply put these values in, so I cannot verify that that is all that is needed. I would guess that if that were done, there is one further key that you will need to edit: App.FirstRun I suspect that would need to be set to 'False' Thanks everyone for the help.

The Sphere of Annihilation (Cleric Paragon spell summon) is not yet recognized by hgx. Would be cool, in particularly a timer when cast.

Maybe someone can help me. I've tried several times to get this running but it doesn't work. When I download it and run it, nothing happens. I have downloaded it and put it in a new folder as described above, but it just won't run. Any idea why that may be? Thank you in advance.

Hell random monsters aka RANDOMS are only listed as normal monsters (in the last tab of HGX in the "Run"). Maybe make them more prominent?

I recommend 2.8.5. It runs stable and is the one to use by now.
