This is a build I made for a friend of mine who is soon to join our community here at HG. Out of all of the classes, it is the Rogue that is the most newbie-friendly in my opinion. This build is a Hell-worthy toon, featuring:
HG-specific Rogue features & questions:
Without further ado, may I present: Pinprick!
Stats at creation:
Dwarf (Derrzagon)
8 STR (Most damage is from sneak attacks, and STR does not give you AB. Stay away from monsters with active STR checks!)
18 DEX+2 Subrace (20) (DEX is high as it gives you AB, AC, and bonuses to useful skills such as Hide, Parry, and Open Lock as well as increasing your Reflex save)
14 CON (14 CON will net you plenty of health, adds to your Fortitude save)
8 WIS-2 Subrace (6) (WIS is left low, as we do not cast Divine magic, used to increase your Will save)
16 INT+2 Subrace (18) (INT is high to get a full AB bonus from Opportunity and to max all of the useful skills
6 CHA-2 Subrace (4) (Charisma does absolutely nothing for us.)
Skills:
63 Appraise (Reduces the cost of things)
63 Bluff (While in-game, type "!opt tauntbluff" without quotations to toggle the usage of Bluff when you use Taunt. This will lower the target's AB (similar to Taunt's AC decrease) and make the target less likely to attack you.)
63 Craft Armor (For every 40 points of Craft Armor you get +1 AC)
63 Disable Trap (For disabling traps)
63 Discipline (Resist discipline checks (such as slagging checks) in endgame areas)
63 Hide (Increases concealment gained from Self Concealment feats)
63 Listen (Lowers enemy concealment)
63 Open Lock (Open locked chests)
63 Parry (Decreases damage taken from critical hits)
63 Pickpocket (Mainly used to steal Potions of Heal from tough enemies)
63 Search (Allows you to find secret loot spots and traps)
5 Set Trap (+2 Competence bonus to Disable Trap, bringing it up to 127)
12 Spot (Increases your Pickpocket DC against pickpocketing creatures)
60 Tumble (Every 5 points of Tumble grants +1 AC)
63 Use Magic Device (Allows you to make full use of scrolls, wands, and equipment requiring other classes, races, or alignments)
Don't worry about not having enough skill points to max every skill early on, as you get more skill points available beginning at level 41.
If a level is not listed, it means that you do not gain any feat or stat increases that level. Just increase your skills, and keep levelling.
1) Strong Soul (Strong Soul is a prerequisite for Legendary Hardened Soul in the Legendary Levels. Combined the two add +6 to your Fortitude and Will saves.)
3) Point Blank Shot (1 extra AB while near mobs is nice.)
4) +DEX
6) Weapon Focus: Light Crossbow (More AB with our weapon of choice)
8) +DEX
9) Rapid Reload (Allows you to get the full amount of attacks per round, essential for a crossbow user)
10) Rogue Bonus Feat: Crippling Strike (See above documentation.)
12) +DEX
Great Fortitude (+2 to your fortitude makes enemy casters' death spells go poof!)
13) Rogue Bonus Feat: Opportunitist (See above documentation.)
15) Iron Will (+2 to your Will helps the enemies' mind control fail!)
16) +DEX
Rogue Bonus Feat: Skill Mastery (See above documentation.)
18) Greater Weapon Focus (Greater Weapon Focus will add one more point to your AB. It requires the HG Enhanced hak, which can be downloaded here.)
19) Rogue Bonus Feat: Improved Evasion (Makes you take half damage from a Reflex save check if you fail, and no damage if you succeed. Great for reducing damage from dragons and casters, and is also a prerequisite for Epic Dodge)
20) +DEX
21) Epic Weapon Focus: Light Crossbow (More AB goodness, so you can hit those Sneak Attacks)
24) +DEX
Epic Prowess (+1 AB now, and +2 more AB when you take Legendary Weapon Focus)
Rogue Bonus Feat: Defensive Roll (Make a Reflex save against damage taken that would otherwise kill you. If you succeed, you take half damage. Prerequisite for Epic Dodge.)
27) Armor Skin (2 more AC, further improving your already insane defenses)
28) +DEX
Rogue Bonus Feat: Epic Dodge (You dodge the first attack of every round, which is made at your opponent's highest AB. This feat is effectively +5 AC (or +3 versus a Monk opponent) against one enemy. However, its usefulness quickly diminishes with more enemies attacking you.)
30) Epic Fortitude (Helps to bolster your low Fortitude save up to the magical number 60)
32) +DEX
Rogue Bonus Feat: Epic Skill Focus: Search (This will help you reach maximum Search during your ventures through Ascension, allowing you to find otherwise hidden secrets.)
33) Great Dexterity I (Increases your AB and AC, what isn't there to love about this feat?)
36) +DEX
Self Concealment I (Passive, undispellable concealment)
Rogue Bonus Feat: Self Concealment II (Passive, undispellable concealment)
39) Self Concealment III (Passive, Undispellable concealment)
40) +DEX

46) +DEX

Great Dexterity II (More DEX!)
50) +DEX
51) Legendary Hardened Soul (+5 to your Fortitude and Will saves, getting you that much closer to 60)
52) +DEX
54) +DEX
Legendary Skill Affinity: Discipline (Allows you to take Discipline as a class skill. Hold off on putting points in Discipline until you take this.)
56) +DEX
57) Epic Skill Focus: Discipline (Boosts your low Discipline by 10, allowing you to overcome hard checks on your Discipline easier.)
58) +DEX
60) +DEX
Legendary Will (Brings your Will save to an acceptable level)
Stats at 60, buffed with +14 to stats, +20 ab/universal saves
22 STR
60 DEX
28 CON
20 WIS
32 INT
18 CHA
99 AB while within 15 meters of the target with 120+ Craft Weapon (you always should be so you can get sneak attacks!)
AC reaching 120+ (can reach over 130 with max Craft Armor and upped AC on randomized gear, but would be difficult to attain)
62 Fortitude
72 Reflex
62 Will
- MId 120s AC (varies depending on gear)
- 95 AB
- Full searching, lockpicking, and trap disabling abilities
- Max appraise (makes a BIG difference when you don't have billions to spend)
- 69% Concealment before Listen (effectively 47%)
- Epic Dodge
- All saves above 60
HG-specific Rogue features & questions:
Q: Why use a crossbow? A: On Higher Ground, crossbow users get two additional attacks per round.
Q: What is that magic number of 60 you keep mentioning? A: Having 60 in a save will protect you from many debilitating checks in end-game areas.
Players can obtain Endless Bolt Boxes in areas throughout Ascension - ask around, someone might give you one for free, saving you a lot of gold.
Self Concealment - Rogues receive increased benefit from the Self Concealment feats. They can add up to 15% of their Hide skill to the concealment, capped at 1% per rogue level above 20 (thus reaching maximum potential at Rogue 35)
Crippling Strike - At Rogue 30, Rogues with the Crippling Strike feat increase their critical threat range by 1 for light weapons while wearing light or no armor. At Rogue 35, the Rogue has a chance to add +1 to their critical hit multiplier whilst wearing light or no armor.)
Opportunitist - At Rogue 25, the Rogue can add his/her base intelligence modifier (Max of ((Rogue level - 20) / 5) to all attack rolls. In addition, this feat adds +1 AB so long as the Rogue has at least 12 Intelligence.
Skill Mastery - At Rogue 21, all skill penalties in the Hells are reduced by 1/3. At Rogue 31, they are reduced by 2/3. At Rogue 40, the Rogue suffers no skill penalties in the Hells.
Sneak Attack Immunity - At Rogue 40, Rogues can bypass most creatures' Sneak Attack Immunity.
