Hey! So I noticed this build and loved it, thinking about making it as a Salamander instead of a Bear. Right now I'm debating between fitting in Overwhelming/Devastating Crit and getting that as early as possible (which leaves me only able to take Epic Weapon Specialization pre-Paragon) or getting Legendary Weapon Specialization in pre-Paragon levels and figuring out what to do with the extra epic/legendary feat. Possibly saves? Would love to get some feedback on this setup!
I ended up changing the stat setup at creation to the following:
14 (20) Str
14 (16) Dex
14 (14) Con
14 (14) Wis
14 (16) Int
8 (8) Cha
This nets me two additional Str points at creation, so I dropped two Great Str feats later on. It also lowers my Dex by 2 and Wis by 1, and I then dropped the Great Wisdom feat. Net loss: -2 AC, -1 AB, -1 Reflex, -1 Will. Those extra points, along with the savings from 2 less base str, went into +4 Con (net +2 gain over the open build) and +6 int. This gives me room to take the following skills (maxed):
Skills- Discipline
- Listen
- Tumble
- Parry
- Craft Armor
- Craft Weapon
So in total, I should cover the 2 AC and 1 AB loss from the stat change with Craft Armor/Weapon, and hopefully gain +1 AB actually, so I'm left with -1 Reflex/-1 Will. The Reflex save loss is negligible so I considered this an overall win to get an extra +1/2 AB and +0/1 AC, and an extra feat, in exchange for -1 Will.
Extra FeatsAs a result of the stat feats I was able to drop and the Iron Skin feat Salamander has by default, I added the following:
- Improved Parry (self immute)
- Toughness [dropped Imp Power Attack to pick this up as I prefer the HPs]
- Overwhelming Critical
- Devestating Critical
Here's the feat progression with the Overwhelming/Deva Crit setup (I hope the formatting works...I
bold/underlined the feat I took and then followed that with the feat you listed for the build):
1 Fighter Free - Armor Proficiency (heavy)
Free - Armor Proficiency (light)
Free - Armor Proficiency (medium)
Free - Assist Other
Free - Command Targeter
Free - Mount Actions
Free - Quick To Master
Free - Shield Proficiency
Free - Weapon Proficiency (martial)
Free - Weapon Proficiency (simple)
- Blooded This feat enables you to take Legendary Skill Affinity Tumble Feat in Legendary Levels Taking this feat in turn allows you to use skill points in tumble as if it was a class skill.
- Weapon Finesse A character with this feat is adept at using light weapons subtly and effectively, allowing him to make melee attack rolls with his dexterity modifier instead of strength (if his dexterity is higher than his strength)
- Weapon Proficiency (exotic) This feat allows effective use of all exotic weapons. The exotic weapons list includes the bastard sword, dire mace, dwarven waraxe*, double axe, kama, katana, kukri, scythe, shuriken, whip*, and two-bladed sword.
2 Fighter - Weapon Focus (nunchaku) A character with this feat is particularly skilled with a specific weapon, gaining a +1 attack bonus with it.
3 Fighter - Iron Will The character's strong presence of mind gives him a +2 bonus to all will saving throws.
4 Fighter (Dexterity +1) - Ambidexterity When fighting with two weapons, this feat reduces the penalty of the off-hand weapon by 4.
5 Fighter
6 Fighter - Great Fortitude A character with this feat is tougher than normal, gaining a +2 bonus to all fortitude saving throws.
- Greater Weapon Focus (nunchaku) HG Enhanced Feat - Greater Weapon Focus feats require Weapon Focus in the specified weapon and add +1 to your AB with that weapon.
7 Fighter
8 Fighter (Dexterity +1) - Power Attack A character with this feat can make powerful but ungainly attacks. When power attack is selected, it grants a +5 bonus to the damage roll, but at the cost of -5 to the attack roll.
9 Fighter - Improved Critical (nunchaku) Combat ability increases the critical threat range of a selected weapon by a range equal to the item's base threat range. A longsword that normally threatens a critical on a roll of 19-20 would now threaten a critical on a roll of 17-20.
10 Fighter - Weapon Specialization (nunchaku) A character with this feat has trained especially hard with a specific weapon type, and gains a +2 damage bonus when using these weapons in combat.
11 Fighter
12 Fighter (Dexterity +1) - Two-Weapon Fighting A character with this feat reduces the penalties suffered when fighting with two weapons. The normal penalty of -6 to the primary hand and -10 to the off-hand becomes -4 for the primary hand and -8 for the off-hand. The ambidexterity feat further reduces the attack penalty for the second weapon by 4 (to -4/-4). Best results are achieved if the off-hand weapon is light, further reducing the penalty for both the primary and off-hand by 2 (to -2/-2).
- Improved Two-Weapon Fighting The character with this feat is able to get a second off-hand attack (at a penalty of -5 to his attack roll).
13 Fighter
14 Fighter Switch to Power Critical (nunchaku) - Blind-Fight HG Modified Feat - Blind Fight's implementation has changed, but the effects have not. When swinging at enemies, the conceal you see in the combat log will be the adjusted concealment after Blind Fight and other conceal reduction, rather than the base concealment.
* Note NWN vanilla version:
This feat grants the character the ability to fight well, even if blinded or against invisible creatures. The character gets to re-roll its miss chance percentile one time to see if it actually hits. Furthermore, invisible creatures get no bonus to hit the character in melee.
15 Fighter Switch to Improved Parry - Power Critical (nunchaku) HG Enhanced feat - Power Critical feats require 6 BAB and Weapon Focus in the specified weapon and add +4 to critical confirmation rolls with that weapon.
16 Fighter (Dexterity +1) - Cleave If the character kills an opponent, he gets a free attack against any opponent who is within melee weapon range.
17 Fighter
18 Fighter - Great Cleave As cleave, except that there is no limit to the number of additional attacks that the character may make after killing one opponent.
Switch to Toughness - Improved Power Attack This feat allows the character to trade a -10 penalty on his attack roll to gain a +10 bonus on his damage roll. It is very useful when fighting tough, easy-to-hit opponents.
