Goblin's in particular have no problem leveling up on HG - everyone loves them. You will be a level 1 Barbarian when you arrive - time to employ:
The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 1
We can get a free feat 'CLEAVE' by drinking the blood of a dragon called Uroboros. Problem is he's bloody hard to kill at low level and we need to scab a vial of the stuff. For this we are going to plead - this is a skill that goblins have in abundance without investing any skill points. So Type in the following:
!newbie Does anyone have a spare vial of Uro Blood they could spare me?
That will send a global wide message on the 'newbie channel' - somesuccor vet who has a stockpile of the stuff is sure to take pity on you. Keep pleading until you get some 'cos you really need it.
OK so we now have 4 feats at level 1:
1. BLOODIED - this one is pretty useless in itself but will let you take a feat called LEGENDARY SKILL AFFINITY TUMBLE later.
2. LUCK OF HEROES - this will give you +1 to all saves and allow you to take a feat called LEGENDARY LUCK later.
3. CLEAVE - this is the one we blagged by getting a vial of Uroboros Dragon Blood - it needed as a qualifying feat for the OVERWHELMING CRITICAL feat we will take later.
4. STEALTHY - this one is given to goblins for free...it does....nothing for you

Truck on over to the Town of Ascension and talk to the beardy guy near the tree. He will ask you a load of questions, what you want to do is pick the option where he makes you level 2 - he'll ask you whether you are sure - lol - of course you are, stupid beardy bloke
That's the freebies over with, now you gonna need to find some parties. Play around with the magnified glass in your inventory - it does stuff. You can shout for a party just make sure you say what level you are.
Onwards, here's the level progression, feats, abilities and wot not:
CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE NOW REACHED LEVEL 40 - the fun starts here - on HG you can carry on leveling up to level 60. Levels 40 - 60 are called 'Legendary Levels' and you get more skills/more ability bonuses and more feats.

Alright enough already, here's how you make him:
1. Log into HG and select 'New Character' 2. Click 'Gender' - you should select 'Male' 3. Click 'Race' select 'Human' 4. Click on 'Subrace' and type Goblin 5. Click 'Portrait' - select one that looks like a goblin 6. Click 'Class' and select 'Barbarian' 7. Click 'Alignment' and select 'Chaotic Evil' 8. Click 'Abilities' and set them to: STR: 14 DEX: 16 CON: 12 WIS: 8 INT: 16 CHA: 8 9. Click 'Packages' and select 'Configure Packages' Set skills to: Discipline: 4 - Listen: 4 - Intimidate: 4 10. Select the following FEATS - 'Bloodied' + 'Luck of Heroes' 11. Click 'Customize' - ignore all temptations to change appearance, it's pointless. 12. Change name to 'I love goblins 'cos they love me' or another one if you prefer. 13. Choose a voice set - the more cringey the better. 14. Click 'Play' 15. You will appear, as a dorky human, on a boat at sea - quickly click through the boring boat guy's information whilst convincing yourself you'll read it next time. 16. Arrive at Ascension Docks, you will still be a dorky human but step off the boat and you will become a cool goblin.Your Abilities will change to the following: STR: 11 DEX: 18 CON: 12 WIS: 8 INT: 16 CHA: 8 AND you will become SMALL. If you don't appear as a goblin with the STATS detailed in No 16 you did something wrong - go to the beardy bloke in town (see below) delete your failed attempt and START AGAIN and make sure you do it right this time. |

LEVELS 1 -20 ABILITIES - You get an increase every 4 levels upto level 40 - that's 10 increases - pick STRENGTH every single time. SKILLS - Here's what you need to pick and why: DISCIPLINE - Take this on every Barbarian Level and Max it - there are many many Discipline checks on HG and as a front line tank you need to be able to pass them. LISTEN - Take this on every Barbarian Level and Max it - lots of beasties have Conceal and the Listen Skill on HG helps you hit them w/o it you'll be swinging at thin air. TUMBLE - Take this at Level 43 not before and Max it - although you technically only need 50 points to max out your Tumble bonus AC. Our gobo wants to go where he like and that means places where Tumble skill checks are high. INTIMIDATE - Take this on every Barbarian Level and Max it - we use this skill to operate our Terrifying Rage Ability and we want it to be as high as possible so it can work. PARRY - Take this on every Barbarian Level and Max it - certain areas of the mod have Parry Skill checks and on HG it also reduces your risk of having an enemy hitting you with a Critical hit. As I said before this goblin is designed to go anywhere. CRAFT ARMOUR - I would advise taking this at level 60 - Max it and it will give you +1 AC for every 40 skill points - with gear you should be able to get +2 to your AC. CRAFT WEAPON - I would advise taking this at level 60 - Max it and it will give you +1 Attack Bonus for every 40 skill points - with gear you should be able to get +2 to your AB CONCENTRATION - Take 30 Points of this on your Sorcerer Level - there are Concentration check on the mod that are BAD to fail. As it is a Wisdom Skill and ours is a little slow we are taking 30 points of this for safety. LORE - Take 8 Ranks of this only on your Sorcerer Level - this is needed to qualify for our Dragon Disciple Class. FEATS and Reminders as you level: 1) Barb 1 – Stealthy (free) / Luck of Heroes / Bloodied / Drink Dragon Blood for free feat - Cleave 2) Barb 2 3) Barb 3 – Weapon Focus Morningstar (Gives +1 to AB) The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 3 Yes we picked Morningstar for our weapon - two reasons - it does bludgeoning or piercing damage, whichever is best. This is handy as certain monsters are vulnerable to one or the other. Secondly there is a rather nice morningstar that you can grab later in the game which will have you singing goblin songs of delight. 4) Barb 4 5) Barb 5 6) Barb 6 – Iron Will (Gives +2 to WILL saves) The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 4 If we take Iron Will now it will give us +2 to our will save and later we can take the Feat 'Legendary Will' which will give us 7 more on our save - neat. 7) Barb 7 8) Barb 8 9) Barb 9 – Lightning Reflexes (Gives +2 to REFEX saves) The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 5 Same deal you had with your WILL save but this is for REFLEX and will let us get LEGENDARY RELEXES later. 10) Barb 10 11) Barb 11 12) Barb 12 – Power Attack (Qualifying feat for OVERWHELMING CRITICAL) 13) Barb 13 14) Barb 14 15) Barb 15 – Great Cleave (Qualifying feat for OVERWHELMING CRITICAL) 16) Barb 16 17) Barb 17 18) Barb 18 – Improved Critical Morning Star (Changes the range of our morningstar's chances to inflict a critical hit from 18-20 to 17-20) 19) Barb 19 20) Barb 20 - Your Skills at this level should be: Discipline 23 - Parry 23 - Intimidate 23 - Listen 23 |
LEVELS 20 - 40 - Epic Levels 21) Sorcerer 1 – Great Str I – Concentration Skill to 30 – Lore Skill to 8 The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 6 So we took Sorcerer at this level to help us qualify for our Dragon Disciple Class and it will also let us read scrolls which is handy. Set your CONCENTRATION Skill to 20 NOW - there are some nasty checks later in the game which means you will need some of this skill. The 8 LORE is needed to qualify for your Dragon Disciple class coming up next. 22) GDD 1 – Change to GREEN DRAGON DISCIPLE The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 7 Yes that's right you can become a GREEN DRAGON DISCIPLE on HG. You will have to select the normal RED type when you take your level but then you can find a certain tower in a certain forest which will allow you to choose a different colour. Go find that tower NOW and select GREEN as your chosen path - for ever after you will be a GREEN DRAGON DISCIPLE. 23) GDD 2 - We get a free +2 Strength as a Dragon Disciple on HG 24) GDD 3 – Great Strength II 25) GDD 4 - We get another +2 Strength at this level as a Dragon Disciple on HG The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 8 On HG Dragon Disciples get absolute immunity to the element of their colour. We are a GREEN DRAGON DISCIPLES. The immunity is 10% per level starting at level 4. So at this level we will gain 10% immunity to Acid. 27) GDD 6 – Great Strength III 28) GDD 7 - We get +2 Constitution at this level as a Dragon Disciple on HG 29) Barb 21 30) Barb 22 – Great Strength IV 31) Barb 23 32) Barb 24 – Bonus Feat: Epic Weapon Focus Morning Star (adds +2 to Attack Bonus) 33) Barb 25 – Great Strength V 34) Barb 26 35) Barb 27 36) Barb 28 – Epic Prowess (adds +1 to Attack Bonus) – Bonus Feat: Armour Skin (adds +2 to Armour Class) 37) Barb 29 38) Barb 30 – Get SHAPESTRONG RAGE item The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 9 Barbarian's get this rather cool ability on HG to change to being one size bigger than they really are. You have to go and get this ability from a certain cave once you reach 30 levels in Barbarian. Once you have it you can make your goblin change from SMALL to MEDIUM at will. So what you say - so everything - this means that not only can you wield your morningstar in one hand, you can now also use a shield as well - your AC will skyrocket - lucky you. 39) Barb 31- Overwhelming Critical Morningstar 40) Barb 32 – Bonus Feat: Thundering Rage Your Skills at this level should be: Discipline 43 - Parry 43 - Intimidate 43 - Listen 43 - Concentration 30 - Lore 8 The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 10 On HG Thundering Rage allows you to add sonic damage to you weapon whenever you use your Rage Ability (1 dice/10 levels of barbarian) by level 60 our goblin will be able to add a nice little bonus of 5 dice of sonic damage to that morningstar. |

LEVELS 40 - 60 - Legendary Levels ABILITIES Keep taking STRENGTH every time you are asked - you'll get another 10 increases in Legendary Levels that's one per 2 levels. Yeeehaaa ! LEGENDARY BARBARIAN COOLNESS On HG each class gains some pretty sweet abilities for their 'Control Class' as our gobo is a barbarian we will be getting the following: Additional Skill Points Barbarians receive an additional skill point per level. Skill points for levels prior to 41 will be granted upon taking level 41 Barbarian Rage Greater Rage now grants +1 regeneration for each Barbarian level above 40 (including LL). For legendary Barbarians with at least 40 base Strength, Greater Rage grants temporary IMMUNITY TO CRITICAL HITS. Physical Immunity On achieving legendary levels, a character with Barbarian as their control class gains 1% immunity to physical damage for every two points of Strength modifier they have. Legendary Ability Bonuses Legendary Barbarians gain +1 to either Strength or Dexterity at legendary levels 45, 50, 55, and 60. The determination is made by whether or not the Barbarian has the Weapon Finesse feat. If they do, they receive Dexterity; otherwise, they receive Strength. In addition, at those same levels, they gain +1 Constitution. You will also get 7 feats in Legendary Levels one every 3 levels just as before - here's what to take: 42) Legendary Skill Affinity Tumble The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 11 Remember we took that useless seeming feat 'BLOODIED' at level 1 - well now because of it that we can take this feat which will mean that we can increase our TUMBLE skill as if it is a class skill for barbarians. More TUMBLE means more AC - to be precise +1 to AC every 5 Ranks - to a maximum of +12 however because we have 7 levels of Dragon Disciple we already have +2 (you get +1 every 3 levels) our maximum is therefore +10. You will have to actually wait until level 43 to take the skill points. 43) *Reminder* Take those extra TUMBLE skill points NOW and keep taking them. 45) Legendary Weapon Focus Morningstar - because we took EPIC PROWESS earlier this feat gives +3 to AB on HG 48) Devastating Critical Morning Star (on HG this increases our weapon's damage multiplayer by one that's x3 from x2 for our morningstar. 51) Legendary Will The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 12 Oh yes this gives a massive +7 boost to out WILL save. Sweeet. 54) Legendary Reflexes The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 13 And with this we get +7 to our REFLEX save. 57) Legendary Luck The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 14 And to top off our saves extravaganza this will give us another +3 to all saves. We needed to take Luck of Heroes at level 1 to qualify for this but luckily we did. Bulletproofing for gobos. 60) Terrifying Rage The GREEN GOBLIN'S trick no 15 Everyone knows that goblins are terrifying but with this feat on HG you can scare the bejesus outta virtually everything - Foes must succeed in a WILL save against (Intimidate skill / 2) or be adversely affected. Up to (Barbarian level including LL) they become panicked, and up to (2 * Barbarian level including LL) they receive -2 to AB and saves. Duration increases to 2d3 rounds at Barbarian 41. |

ARMOUR CLASS: Base = 10 Dexterity Bonus = 10 Defection = 17 Natural = 17 Dodge = 20 Armour = 22 Tumble = 10 Dragon Disciple Bonus = 2 Shield = 17 Armour Skin Feat = 2 Size = 1 Craft Armour = 2 Grand Total = 130 - not bad for starters believe it or not we could get that up by another 12 with some fancy equipment and tagging but 130 will do for now. |
SAVES: These saves have been calculated on the basis that you have found +12 gear to increase your Wisdom/Constitution/Dexterity and +20 Magic Bonus - neither of which is that hard to obtain. WILL = Base 6 - Epic Level Bonus 10 - Legendary Level Bonus 5 - Feats Bonus 13 - Magic Bonus 20 - Wisdom Bonus 6 = 60 FORT = Base 12 - Epic Level Bonus 10 - Legendary Level Bonus 5 - Feats Bonus 4 - Magic Bonus 20 - Constitution Bonus 10 = 61 REFL = Base 6 - Epic Level Bonus 10 - Legendary Level Bonus 5 - Feats Bonus 13 - Magic Bonus 20 – Dexterity Bonus 10 = 64 |
GEARING and PLAYING The Green Goblin Armour - As a barbarian you will be restricted to medium or light armour. Do not despair this suits our gobo just fine. Medium Armour will allow us to keep using our DEX bonus and is your best choice. Shield - Well we wont be able to use one with our morningstar until we get that nifty SHAPESTRONG RAGE item at level 38, unless we pick a small weapon. AC is very important so grab the best small weapon you can and use a shield until you can unlock SHAPESTRONG RAGE then switch to your morningstar. In order to keep our Dex bonus large or small shields are best. Large shields tend to have better abilities on the whole. Immunities - As you travel around look for items that have 'Damage Soak' and 'Damage Reduction' immunities these will help you greatly as a tank in the early days of your goblin life. Scrolls - Once you have taken your Sorcerer level at Level 21 you will be able to use scrolls. These have many uses, buy a few from the shops and try them out. Friends - There's nothing like having a few friends to help. HG is a team game for the most part. Look for players of your level and see if you can join up with them. Type '!who' or !who all'into the chat box and it will tell you all the players on the server and what level they are. |
REALLY IS THIS BUILD A JOKE OR IS IT ANY GOOD? Here are a few facts about tanking on HG - lets just see how our little goblin holds up shall we: 98 ATTACK BONUS - that's good by ANY tank standard. 130 AC - whilst not the highest it is perfectly respectable, with all the gears and tags we could one day be looking at the high 130s - we can tank anywhere with this. CRITICAL HIT IMMUNITY - A lifesaver this is gonna keep us safe even against the biggest baddest critters. 40% ABSOLUTE ACID IMMUNITY - Acid is one of the most previlent forms of damage all over the mod. Many foes reduce your immunities - but we have protection to those nasty acid ones - go us. SCROLL USE - We can carry a whole host of useful spells in scrolls to protect and buff ourself and others. SAVES - All our saves are 60 or over, even with the most modest of gear - we will be absolutely fine anywhere with these saves. SKILLS - We have all the vital tanking skills required - Discipline/Listen/Tumble/Concentration/Parry/Craft Armour/Craft Weapon in addition we can use our Intimidate Skill to help reduce mobs abilities, this is a nice bonus for our party as well. DAMAGE - We can do 2 types of damage with our morningstar (bludge and pierce) plus buff our weapon with some nice sonic damage - whilst we will not be top of the damage tables we can hold our own with the best of them. ABILITY CHECKS - There are lots of ability checks on HG, with our high STR and respectable DEX we have a good chance of passing alot of vital checks. PHYSICAL IMMUNITY - As a Legendary Barbarian we get a minimum of +11% immunity (from Strength) to be added to w/e we can get from our gear - this helps more than you would expect. HIT POINTS - With +12 Gear you should have 1282 HP - that's pretty sturdy. WE'RE GOBLINS - Quite simply we're the coolest race on HG. Just watch their faces when your the last one standing !! |
