Again I don't know why you're arguing that point Please back it up with facts if you consider it that important Give me a list of Chaos Gnome sorcs using Fan of the Fates ? I based my "probability" on no facts, only "feel" and "experience" and "opinion" and "common sense" but if you honestly want to argue about, it the burden of proof lies on you, not me, to prove otherwise Why anyone would make a Chaos Gnome sorc is beyond me, furthermore why anyone would be running Styg with such a toon is also beyond me (not because it "can't do it" but because anyone doing Styg surely has better options than a crappy gnome)...if you want to argue for the sake of argument then ... ok ..., but unless you're just doing it to disagree, I don't understand why you're doing so...and if you are doing it just to disagree then come on... If anything I'm saying I'd expect a LOWER TIER subrace (Rak) sorc to be doing Styg so your logic really just fails to apply if you think I'm saying that "bad subrace can't do hells", I thought I clarified that in my last post, evidently not, so let me say it again, it's not about the TYPE of subrace, it's about the fact that it's a BAD subrace period, I wouldn't even make a bard with it to be honest... By the way this argument is such a waste of both our time that this is my last post on the topic, take it or leave it, name me some Chaos Gnome sorcs that use Fan of the Fates and I'll reply, mahybe even with a profuse apology, otherwise don't bother

Just to end this futile debate . chaos gnome and aleithian dwarf have FC:bard, that means 20% xp penality for this build, lil harsh for a newbie and even more with paragon levels and reincarnation on the table. That, and midgets smell like noob spirit. Btw, the build made by my loyal but grumpy second in command now gw2-addicted is, in its award-winning semplicity, still the best choice for a newbie (aimed at LL and first hell runs): it doesn't consider the newest spells but swapping bigby5 for flensing should be a safe choice, then at level 55+ when you're done farming PoM and Dachy you can swap rebuke (no more need for boss-killer magic damage) for reverse gravity.

Forgot about the penalty but Rajah I have dropped it as really its point opinion based argument that neither side can really prove as its speculative.

I updated this build somewhat, only really the spell selection as everything else is still currently optimal in my opinion. I'll likely update the others over coming days. I'm inclined to agree with desocupado. Compared to Rakshasa, Chaos Gnome gets +2 Dex,+1Con and a free feat. Even without changing spell focuses, the single enchant focus will improve the Greater Magic Weapon bonus. A lot of melee types are dependent on that. I'd also suggest dropping Keen Edge to pick up Greater Magic Weapon too. If you're the only caster in the party GMW often isn't optional. I guess a lot of builds in the forums are really only considering hells, but for an open subrace build I'd think that getting to that level would be important too. I appreciate your input, and I apologise for my extremely late reply. However, I disagree with all of the above. For this build, Chaos gnome gains no free feats compared to Rakshasa. A Rakshasa can be a human or a gnome and therefore will get 8 useful pre epic feats whether via gnome racial sf: illusion or the human bonus feat. Free feats curse song and sf enchantment are useless. With regards to keen edge and greater magic weapon, you could comfortably take neither and it would have no significant consequences especially pre hells. There is an ultra rare caster shield which this build will absolutely want to use during legendary levels which will allow it to hand out +10 gmw making the spell entirely pointless to take. This shield can be bought for a pittance at the player market. I guess a lot of builds in the forums are really only considering hells, but for an open subrace build I'd think that getting to that level would be important too. Actually I've done that on a Yuan Ti sorcerer (my first ever build on Higher Ground) and three Radiance Genasi sorcerers of various flavours, which I believe gives me some idea about what is required. I still stand by my assertion that Chaos Gnome is horribly inferior for this build in comparison to Rakshasa, especially for players fresh to hells who will probably never make anywhere close to Stygia before they upgrade race.

Excruiator I had suggested Alethian Dwarf over Chaos Gnome you may want to look into that as it might be a better option to the already rather loathed Chaos Gnome option though it may not be better than Rak still and I haven't really tried to pen it out to see how it would go since I looked at this build back then when I suggested it.

Aleithian dwarf has 20% pen, that while not being build breaking it's not nice for a build aimed as first caster. Rak is cheap and classic.

I suggested Rak as primary choice with Chaos Gnome as a secondary for a couple of reasons. Rak because it's clearly optimal; maximum dc for a secret/UR grade subrace, medium size, no xp penalty with human as base race and 15 + level sr. I chose Chaos Gnome as secondary because it also has 15 + level sr.
By comparison Alethian dwarf has the same ugly xp penalty as Chaos Gnome, gains a little more leeway to tinker with stat spread or one superfluous epic feat due to a net +5 cha and no feats gained. I consider dodge a pretty terrible feat for HG so I gave that no value. For a new player that sr can be massive. Devariels in desert have 56 spell penetration. That means at level 60 they only beat the sr of Rak or a Chaos gnome 10% of the time. Between that sr and mantles/dom you can reasonably expect to solo desert without dying to the masses of implode.
Soloing desert is a rite of passage for any caster, and helps to encourage learning which mobs have vulnerability to instakills, and which primary damage types they take. It also helps them gear up, to an extent at least. This can lead on to Dustbone farming, which facilitates mindstill aquisition, which in turn facilitates hellstone acquisition. I probably should have made the value of 15 + level sr more explicit in the race choice.
All pedantry aside, there really is no contest. Rak is the best option and it's by far the easiest to acquire. I shouldn't have even listed an ultra rare option because there is no scenario or reason in which one should consider using those. Making this sorcerer as any race other than Rak when you are limited to mid tier subraces is quite obviously inferior when you weigh the pros and cons; this is in terms of ease of acquisition, subrace offensive and defensive power, experience gained per kill and ease of gearing.

Just a note about Aleithian dwarf sorcerers. Many contributors suggest maxing Charisma, maxing Discipline and using the Transmutation spell feats. The Alethian dwarf subrace gives free feats Bullheaded and Spell Focus Transmutation.
Bullheaded allows you to take LSA Discipline in legendary levels and get maximum Discipline. Normally this would require an additional enabler low level feat.
Transmutation is a nice spell focus feat used in many sorcerer builds.
The effective Charisma bonus of Aleithian Dwarves is +5. This allows you to get the maximum Charisma bonus and DC possible using a UR, Secret or Open subrace while using only 9 Great Charisma feats. This provides, in effect, a free Epic/Legendary level feat.
The xp penalty only comes into play if you take levels in another class. One level of paladin is common, but costs you 1 caster level on every spell. If instead you channel all your spells, you get that caster level back, but, you cut the number of spells you can cast in half. Many experienced sorcerers advise against using a level of Paladin or any other class and instead go pure Sorcerer which avoids any xp penalty and adds +1 caster level to every spell.
In short, no other UR, Secret or Open Sorcerer provides more useful bonus feats for a sorcerer or a higher maximum DC.

I like how detailed this build is in terms of information. A very good starting place for new players. -S
