Tonight myself, my brother, brother in law, and 4 hours were doing the 29-35 tags. We got to solis and were trooping through when he glitches at the last encounter... We had already used the holy symbol on the altar, the light shone, screen shook, it made that noise, and we proceed to fight. For an hour. An entire hour. Racking up deaths which cost XP, instant fugues costing us gear on a double XP weekend, time, gold on items. We literally were beating for an hour and he never got anything lower than uninjured. Our hits were tagging him for 35-60 per. We had ranged, melee, and casters all participating. We used negative energy pots. Etc.
This experience has left an extremely bitter taste in the mouths of my group, not to mention severely affecting our bonus weekend in a negative way with having to wait for gear!
Please assist us and at least just return the items we have picked up from fugue and help us bypass the 24 hours so we can progress. Let others know the encounter is wrecked So they don't waste time or xp or gold on nonsense like the solis fight...
First off, not a bank bug - hence its being moved here.
Second, you haven't explained what the glitch you think you experienced was. It sounds like someone was healing him, or wasn't using protection from his drain. His code hasn't been changed, and many people have completed him successfully, so it's a little difficult to compass the notion that this was anything but player error - this isn't the first time people have had trouble with him, not understanding how he was healing. You haven't said anything to indicate that the encounter is in fact 'wrecked', or functioning anything but normally.
Third, if you ARE having problems like this, you should seek assistance on chat, and/or from a DM, to find out if there is in fact a bug, before you burn an hour. I sympathize with your frustration, but you could've saved yourself much of it by seeking out more information BEFORE it reached that point.
We were in constant communication with the server via newbie chat. We were told negative energy pots would cover us from his drain. We were told he may have a TON of temporary hit points, hence the time investment to truly give it a shot at reducing this total to land a kill. Sabregirl was a name I recall who communicated with me some who can also vouch for our communication with the server. We asked multiple questions about the method and requirements to kill him and based off those responses we were doing ALL that we should have been.
I've never had a problem with anything when following the advice of other players when seeking direction. My reason for thinking there was an issue was the result of following said advice, a large time investment to give it a real shot of working, and then it failing still. So if I was wrong in this assessment, I apologize. But, using that logic, it makes sense as to why I'd feel that way. Someone else had also mentioned he may be bugged with something and had said they had the same issue. When repeated on a new server it was rectified. This was told to us after we had called the run.
We understand that HG is unique and the encounters are meant to challenge the players and to provide a far different thought process when it comes to the situations we face in game. With that being said. Assuming he had a ton of temporary points how could you not invest the time we did and then feel you tried all you could before making a complaint such as this?
If it was more player error that lead to our unsuccessful bid to destroy the boss I can readily accept this assessment. But, when you've been given things to do and try by the community and still coming up short when that's never happened before, you end up where we are now.
Sorry to have wasted your time. My intent wasn't to come off as a complainer or someone seeking a free ride. None of which was the case. Just the ability to enjoy this bonus weekend without the gear penalties we have since at that time, it seemed the encounter was flawed.
After a quick chat with Sabre, it sounds like you just didn't have enough damage output to take him down in a reasonable amount of time. It can be difficult with all meleers, especially just three. If it's any consolation, some parties have so much trouble that his temp hit points get high enough to cause scripting errors to scroll in the combat log.
He IS one of the trickier bosses that way. I would suggest a larger party, with perhaps a vet or two who's killed him before to help smooth the way. Raw damage output is pretty key.
Hope you can enjoy the rest of the bonus xp weekend more than you've been able to thus far.
Vichya pretty much nailed the main problem for melee's. Melee's wont be able to beat his healing in smaller than 5man or even with 10man at worst case scenario. You need to be immune to his on hit effect, not just the damage it deals. Not sure how much tactics I'm allowed to give here, but there are few tricks that makes him easy to solo even as a melee, how ever those require some time invest with higher level chars first (say you have char at lvl 50 and making a proxy for it with all tags or starting a new one). If you want to know more details you can find me ingame or send me a PM and I'll respond with more spoilers.
You can spoiler here, they've had enough ingame interactions over this particular fight already.
Was waiting for you to say this ;D
Solis' regeneration is based Vampiric Touch spell on-hit. You can protect yourself by 1. Potion of Shadow Protection (they also come in packs, immunity to necromancy), 2. immunity to spell level 3 and below: found on items, (Minor) Globe of Invulnerability or Ethereal Visage, 3. having high Spell Resistance (in mid 40s), found on some subraces, or provided by clerics/ druids; not a guaranteed method though, the spell might sometimes get through, luckily not often 4. hiding unprotected squihies out of his sight, so he is not tempted to feed on them, there is no shame in doing that.
High AC and/or conceal also helps, his means of conceal reduction are pathetic. Neg potions will protect you from negative damage, but not stop his feeding. As for how to actually kill him: he is undead, thus taking good positive and divine damage. Any smiter will make the job easier. By the time you face him, you should have access to at least some weapons with exotic types.
Other than that, he does take some little elemental damage too, especially if you can place your hands on Wand of Volts from thids or Wand of Noxious Fog from hive (legendary runs items). His base HP is somewhat low, so unless you feed him, the fight is fast.
Oh and on a last note: if you start seeing actual bugs in combat logs, something like "error: stack overflown", you have managed to feed him to few tens of thousands HP, it is a good time to start over on another server.
Yeah, looks like u can cs anythin non crit imm. - Big Crit
What Simp said + finding a augmenters of mestils acid sheath and putting it on the lvl 21 torch with 10/+15 soak aura of anhur or something like that was the name, then you just let him suicide on that while drinking some healpotions - if you have few physical imunity item (prismatic armor from prissy (10%), noble boots (5%) titan cloak (10%) and few bracers also at that level usuable for 5-10% + some resist he'll hurt you like 15-20 a hit. My level 30 tag bot uses both mestils and elemental shield, but latter one isnt available as augmenters.
Anyways, casters usually have little problem but thats how melee's can also solo it relatively easy.
