I would like to "clean up" the open subrace boards and standardize formatting. Our last subrace contest gave me many examples of excellent formatting to choose from. Balduvard, Xiayu, and Excruciator far exceeded my expectations for example but I feel that what they did goes over and above what is "needed" or reasonable for participation in the open subrace forums. The below build formatting by Laser Pointer I felt was both excellent and attainable by the majority of builders. highergroundpoa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=openbuild&thread=21165This is not a contest or a demand that all players comply with a formatting standards. It is a project aimed to make builds more readable and accessible to new players. Those that work on their own builds or on behalf of others would be filling a "wiki gnome" type of role. Improving formatting and fixing minor errors. The original poster will still have complete control of their work ( even If somebody else does their formatting for them). This should, in theory, make the build easier to maintain. Everybody wins. This will be an ongoing effort, so there is no rush to overhaul every build. I have not decided on the reward. I would like your ideas on a suitable reward before anything final is approved. The reward(s) should be 1.) composed of desirable items 2.) embody the idea of equivalent exchange (time/effort) 3.) reward should include items that encourage in game run formation and not just benefit the player directly I'd like to put together a standard "package" or several "packages". Original authors will be given first dibs on upgrading their formatting but you can volunteer to work on others builds so long as they don't want the reward themselves. You would not be changing anything in their build(s) other than the formatting. (I was going to just edit the OP and started to, but then I realized it is far less distracting to do another post. This could be a fun and rewarding project for those that enjoy this sort of work.)

I'm afraid I don't have a lot of time on my hands these days, alas... so if anyone would like to try and touch up the formatting on these builds: highergroundpoa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=openbuild&action=display&thread=13965highergroundpoa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=openbuild&action=display&thread=9418&page=1highergroundpoa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=openbuild&action=display&thread=9423I'd appreciate it. I could also give you some items from my personal stash for your efforts. , If you'd like to take me up on this, please PM me, that way I can modify the OPs with the updated format. Naturally I'll give whomever sends in the winner credit on the post. I'd prefer it if you could, by in large, keep the builds the way they are. However, if you make some mechanical changes, I'll look them over and determine if they're a good idea. (For example, buffing STR up to 14(12) on the scoundrel, or some more changes to the BFM build due to updates). I'll give it a look-over and if I like the change, I'll add something extra to the prize.

You don't need to do that Sir Kobold. We just need to come up with standard rewards or packages of rewards.

I think it's great that people have their own styles and such, but enough cannot be said for consistency when we're talking about builds aimed at newbies. I don't think creatively formatted builds like Bad's, etc, should be changed to a unified format, but perhaps every open subrace build should have a level progression table somewhere that is common to all. Just a thought. I fully understand how frustrating and time-consuming it can be to create these forum tables by hand. As such, I have automated the process (see my offer below). Two more thoughts, or one thought with two aspects: Should each build be date/time-stamped for a) when it was fully tested in the TEST chamber and b) the highest level it has attained? Stale builds can be very detrimental to newbies (and woe to those who play HC). Finally, an offer. I have an "Automated Progression Tables" spreadsheet where I store all of the builds for characters I'm currently using or builds that I'm contemplating using. The spreadsheet also outputs the forum code for a complete progression table (or part of it, depending on the settings I choose). This output is based off Laser Pointer's (minus colouring, which I might add in). If you want to see an example, please check out Shock and Claw - I also provided a skill progression table for Almost BUR Bear and Dragon's Rage. I actually like doing this sort of this thing, and I really like helping out this community, so if you have a build that could benefit from such a table, please let me know. You can either ask that I input all the values myself (which I'll do when I have the time) or you could send me a spreadsheet (or CSV file) with these columns: - Character Level - Class - Ability Increase - Feats Taken - Misc Notes for Level And the final totals for all skills with the skills listed in order of importance (noting any skill dumps necessary). Potentially, I can package up the spreadsheet and send it to anyone should they wish to use it. I haven't put much effort into making the use of it self-explanatory, though. Anyway, I've built this spreadsheet and it saves time. Let me save your time And you can keep any prize - I think it's wonderful that you all put these builds on the forum in the first place! - Niilo

There are builds that need more help than others and the process is entirely voluntary. So concerns about individual players formatting are not going to be an issue.

Players who contribute here generally do so to be helpful rather than to obtain rewards. Having said that doing this does eat some of your game time and id really like to not only give people compensation for time lost but rewards that will actually cause them to play more or enable players. For example if you call a tiamat run because you now have a spare hellstone or an aboleths run because you have a stablizer. Your time is compensated and a run is called that wouldn't otherwise be available. Everybody wins. That's why I want ideas so that the carrot is more than just a carrot.

Here are some reward ideas in the direction you are suggesting Tyran:
HS Splinter Stabilizer Ms Runes Bunch of Barrels Sapphire Writ of Passage
Subrace tag not book to encourage building new toons not selling books.
Doppleganger non-standard change ( Maybe Big or Small size 1 toon only per account etc.)( Only done on a new toon to encourage building again.)
Unlocking re-inc Light 1 toon per account 1 time only.
Unlocking Spell ped 1 toon per account 1 time only.
Thats all that came to mind for now.

I hope to get many of my own builds updated but I have several now I would appreciate any help to redo the formating a bit. So that I and/or others don't end up working on the same builds please PM me with which one you will be working on if you wish to redo one for me.
