Hello, Am having a real problem with running NWN since the weekend when our computer was upgraded to from XP(service pack 2).
Have tried no end of alternatives via the compatibility modes and although I can get into HG the ping is horrible always over 700+ making it and every other server I can see totally unplayable. the ping before running XP2 was like around 135 ish sometimes depending on time of day dropping below 100.
Have accessed the files etc from the original disk EIDE and placed them available on the new SATA drive via W7 using the library feature.
Any advice on how to get this ping down and make HG run at a decent ping like before would be most welcome.

Did you do an upgrade installation of Windows 7 or a clean install? Are you running NWN and any HG add-ons as an Administrator?

Windows 7 upgrade on a new SATA drive the old EIDE XP2 disk is still in the machine so we could access all our old stuff on EIDE drive. The people that done the job call it a refurbishment installation where by they need the licence key to be able to preform it.
Have tried to run NWNmain with the adminstration feature ON I can get into the game but with a ping at 700+ its like watching a still film with movement like between frames like 15 seconds apart. Thus totally unplayable.
DO the HG add-ons also need to be run into compatible mode too ?

XP2 = XP (service pack2) as per my original EIDE drive was running that version.
Where do I find the updates you also mentioned gandoron ?

The other thing is you might want to find the manufacturer drivers for the NIC.

Network Interface Card aka Network Adapter.

you want to right-click on your EXE, go to properties, then the "compatibility" tab. Those were the options I was talking about.

Network interface is on-board the motherboard and have recently updated to 80 meg fibre-optic which had no issues before W7.
Gandoron I have already done the compatibilty as recommended on the Atari/bioware site and made it for XP (service pack 2), tried SP3 too and same result.

The manufacturer of the motherboard or computer should have current drivers for your system I would try downloading and installing them.

are you running on a wired NIC or wifi?
are you sure it's the ping and nothing to do with your framerate. Are you running fraps or another FPS program. ie. if you are getting 15/30 fps, but it's you are just not getting location update and out of sync. then it's connection related. If you aren't getting screen updates except for every 10 secs, then it could be graphics related.

We keep it hardwired due to the fact we don't have any other computers in the house nor do we access internet through such things as mobiles.
There is no other program running what so ever when I have tried to play NWN. The graphics card is well ahead of tech specs and have checked and rechecked it is up to date with its firmware.
I am pretty sure it is the ping like I reported in the opening of this thread it was like 135 ish before running on XP SP2 now its like 710 and not just HG all servers I see are 700+ one or two are like 1200+
When I have got into HG it is just like the worst lag you could ever imagine.

Have got this issue finally resolved, it was my graphics card causing the issue as it was an ATI Radeon 1050, and ATI not only no longer support it but it is not fully compatable with Windos 7 or Vista.
Managed to acquire a NVidia GT8600, got my cousin to install and update the drivers and hey presto all is good again.
Just glad NVidia are a commited company that don't stop supporting older graphics cards unlike ATI.
