i was testing a lifethreader and decided to see how well my summon (death domain) does in combat. it has several feats to increase hit and damage for heavy flail and several metamgic feats but he doesnt cast and fight unarmed. is this normal? it seems pointless to have a summon that scales with your character but only does 1 damage per hit...

You'd have to be more specific for me to be certain (what levels in what classes are you, what's the exact name of the creature summoned), but it's likely it's actually using a heavy flail, just in its CWEAP slot where you can't see it. Casting was deliberately turned off on summons, as their tendency to break loot was viewed as more detrimental than their spells were beneficial.

While I am not where I can test checking the NWN Wiki states that a Cleric with the death domain can summon a shadow once per day. I suspect it is using the same script/code as a Shadow Dancer's Summon Shadow and I am guessing the issue is mostly that CL is 40-50 depending on how many WM levels he took and if he splashed anything else. I think in my own testing with a 20/20 split and CL 40 I do find that it is worthless. I think it would be nice if LTs could make some real use of it as I don't see it getting much use any other ways.
