I picked up a Razer BlackWidow 2013 (the non-backlight key version) this weekend. It was the lowest price locally for a decently-reviewed mechanical keyboard. I was researching for something that would be good for typing, as that was my requirement (gaming enhancements a bonus, but far from needed). My research showed that the Cherry Mx Blue switches were the preferred flavour for typing, so that's why I picked the BlackWidow. I will say it took a few hours of use to get used to, but I did quickly warm up to the clickety-clack of the mechanical keyboard. Without question my typing accuracy improved after I got used to the keyboard. The old Dell USB low-ender I had previously was horrid, I now realize. (Unfortunately I still use the same dell keyboard at work ) Overall after a day and a half of some typing, some gaming, I'm pretty pleased with it. I got it for CA$99 at Staples, in Nova Scotia. -db

Same here I love my knew mechanical took some time to get used to it but definitely an improvement and I want a nice mechanical at work but I am not paying for another keyboard I really like the look of the Cherry MX Clear for a work keyboard its basicly like the Blue but w/o the clicky. I think there is another with stiffer keys than clear or blue much like my greens but with out the clicky noise I think they are gray or dark gray. I did check out and kinda liked the BlackWidow but I prefer the stiffer feel of the Greens which is why I ended up getting it.

I was worried about the stiffness actually so I'm very pleased with the results of the Cherry MX Blue. Not sure if I would enjoy stiffer keys than that. I don't think I came across the Clear though - if they are lower noise (noiseless?), I would probably pick up one for work. I've already replaced my mouse on my own dime, might as well get a decent workstation setup. -db

In retail stores you will typically only find Red, Brown, Black, and Blue the Brown there is lots of information on the web about the various types of switch. I did some more reading on the Clears just now it looks like they activate with a force of 55 but it goes up to 100 the further down you press it. I agree with the articles analysis that this less so makes the keys stiff and more helps prevent bottoming out, the clack noise, making for over all a much quieter keyboard than other mechanicals. www.mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?switch_id=9&size=ALL&keyword=&in_stock=onThis is where I got my keyboard and they carry some keyboards with the clear switches that link should show the currently in stock ones with Clears. deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MXThat link provides some information on the various Cherry switches which are the more common brand switch you will find.

Though, it can have the opposite result if you don't type much.
