My Wife gets an e-mail....from a friend. And this e-mail is in the spam folder. And her friend is married since over 10 years but in the e-mail she uses still her girl's name . And my wife does not remember what her friend wrote because she did not read anything, she just instantly clicking on the cool looking exe-file that was attached because it could be some photos or movie or... Now all my pdfs, jpg, docs and so on are encrypted by some bloody ransomware, also my backup-files that unfortunately were on a second drive connected to my pc. Luckily, I have another backup at work. Some photos are lost. Morality: Make back ups often and save. In particularly with worst-case users around you that uses your pc.

This happened to my better half as well. There is free software out there on the internets, that can recover the damaged files. Think it was called shadow explorer.
