- Undead have typically much higher will than reflex, Sunburst beats UtD because of that. - Wail and CoD have the same effect, and with low caster stat, the 3 DC will make difference. Mord comes from scrolls, there is little point in taking it as spell. - Weird is superb because of DC, if you can fit at least some illusion, but even without it. - At low levels very few enemies have Blindfight, so EV might be a good idea - some UR caster shields can be used as early as in 20s. - Remove curse is only good if you are so st00pid to equip one of the 3 well known cursed items Take Elemental Shield instead, it is an awesome defensive spell against cold and fire dragons (Aasimathas)

Well, One thing I would say is that there are a couple of different builds going on here. You shouldn't get too confused by trying to everything in this post. Rapier wit is good, I guess, but honestly, I never get asked to bring my L30 sorceror helper to help out in the Hel tag by anyone. It's almost exclusively tank-types that I wind up assisting and they don't need a lot of help in Hels other than picking the right weapons. I use lots of death magic and sunburst. Those have DC that needs to be effective in the areas 5 levels above which means more CHA (i.e. zhents). I was in zhents last night and my wails were effective, but not 100%. Same for queen spider. I don't worry about enchantment focus and I've never had a complaint about my gmw. I do have focus in evocation for evards AB, though. And I use the following staff: Staff of Axilar

Playing through with this, I think Sunburst is a must with this helper.
When you're not doing tags, chances are your party will be xping off Field, PoW, then Rhazids before being able to move on to Zhentarim, and on top of that you will be doing Shadow Pointiff with undead, and sunburst will help you damage both the undead and the shadows that are resistant to pretty much everything. It will also help you clear Castle Gaobin quickly, because we all know you'll be doing that run 20 times over. And that's not all, on top of that you also are going to fight undead on your way to Axilar.
U2D won't work too well on undead that have high will saves, and the DC drop from being in a lower level is noticeable in this level range, so having a a mix of U2D and Sunburst is better than having just one for these tags.
I don't think any other sorcerer build should have Sunburst due to there being other spells that are needed, but I think this is the one exception.
Update: I'm considering dropping U2D lol. I'm looking at Breach, Ethereal Visage, and Greater Dispelling actually. The only issue SR related is really only Rhazids annoying spell mantle, and this spell would do the job to get rid of it. Stone to flesh is also another option for the mobs in Queen Zeyra.

The only sorc spells i've found myself "needing" more than others at least are, Wail, Weird, Bigby 9, Sunburst, Evards, Vortex of Teeth. One thing is that UtD is way more effective against undead water shrikes than sunburst.
The rest are just whatever is convenient, Wail can be changed to CoD to grab mord or something, but Greater Spell Breach is generally good enough.
