I recently got a XR item that sparked my interest to why it exists. Namely this one: wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Reshape_the_World. There is a whole set of rings all with 2 ele immunities at 90% base (all other ele imms at 15% base) and one exo at 30% base (all other exo imms at 5% base). They seem like a straight upgrade from the Bur rings we all know and occasionally swap in if we need to overload on certain immunities to fight certain Layers of endgame runs like this one wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Bahamut%27s_Ruination. (again there is a whole set with different exo and ele immunities) The difference between the Bur and the Xr rings that seemed really odd to me is that there is a circle of Neg exo rings. Those don't exist for the compareable Bur set and they seem just sort of missplaced to me since no player I know wears any gear with added Neg immunity (atleast not if its not on an already superrandomized item). There are plenty of ways for pretty much everyone to get 100% from itemspells like ur/tia staffs or casters or potions that are easily farmable or can be created by harpers or the nessus helmet. Not to mention that about every party that goes on endgame runs usually has a source of UEF. So I wondered what the reasoning behind those Xr rings is since they seem like a blank if you roll for them, even more then a mote which is atleast a tiny upgrade compared to abo motes - and those get refunded- , while xr neg rings are strictly inferior to every bur ring. I am curious if I am missing some use for neg immunity or if those rings are as bad as I think they are. Dash.

I had the same thought originally, but there's enough Neg% infliction in Limbo P2 that having a buffer is probably helpful - 'in theory' we can try to always have Shadow Shield/UEF up + Font of Purification running, but in reality we often still end up taking a lot of Negative damage (at least I did, anyway). I still think they're pretty difficult to fit in to a gear config (just like any XR Ring compared to a godly-randomized BUR Ring), but personally wouldn't confidently place them into the "useless" category right now.
Perhaps the bigger issue is that XR Rings, and anecdotally Neg% XR Rings, seemed to drop more often than we'd expect. But I believe these potential RNG issues are very difficult to either prove or fix, so it's probably something we just have to deal with for now (well, those people still bothering to play Limbo).

In the specific p2 limbo context, given the choice, I'd wear an anarchic or psionic ring over a neg one, and that'd cut incoming damage by a bigger amount. Everywhere else, negative immunity is a no issue if inflictions are not totally ignored (even in Thanatos/Cania, only places where neg inflict really adds up) simply because it starts by a flat 100% and exotic dr items cover the lil bit that could go through.
Imo it's just a bit too cheap for negative energy protection/shadow shield/uef to provide 100% imm, it makes a good amount of end game monsters who deal neg damage with their primary attacks (usually as third dmg type, in place of div/pos/mag) a weak encounter, because inflictors aren't everywhere anyway. Random unasked suggestion, uef/nep/ss could give something like CL%imm instead of a flat 100%, make the zombies scary again.
As it stands, those rings are not going to be used in any setup pre-PL areas, and in the only PL area we can play they aren't a hot enough option.

I think we should wait for elder evils to reveal the effects of neg rings and how we understand it.

Well so you are either saying that there is an update to those rings planned and due to next update OR that they eventually become useful in some future run that has been plannend since abyss was released?
