I have the Salamander race, and want to follow this build: highergroundpoa.proboards.com/thread/15904. Here's my problem. Call me an old school dork or something, but I typically think of a tank as the traditional "sword and board" and want to go with bastard sword vs. the builds heavy flail. I realize the advantages of heavy flail for a build like this, I just want to try something different. But, going bastard sword means I'm gonna have to sacrifice a point to get exotic weapon use. Anyone have any suggestions of what I could take out or get later to achieve this? I know I for sure want to keep the toughness feats up to 10 by 40, but the other skills are just important, or am I just out of luck with this, and have no other choice but stay with heavy flail?

XDDs become large by default therefore the heavy flail is a one-handed weapon for them. If you wanna go for a real sword u could just go greatsword.
Sadly the XDDs arent really all that strong on the server you might want to look into a dsm or bfm tank. Its about the same as a XDD but gets more attack, hellballs, 7dx fire or elecricity and some sweet other perks for giving up a few stats and -1 on the fear aura.

Not to mention that build is so old they swapped to Salamander from Half-Guardinal which was invalidated with the elemental immunity/resist updates to H-G and that Petrification Immunity is huge in a lot of LL areas.

The best advice is not making a xdd. A salamander could make a passable CC fighter or WM.
That being said either toughness or blind fight could be removed (blind fight is a poor man's substitute for listen skill)

BFM/DSM Tanks are fun. Basic xDD is boring as $#$%.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I never pondered the idea of bfm or dsm. I'm tri-boxing, so I really want to have a tank, and since I have salamander, I thought it would be an easy choice. so, Ralkain's Deadly Dreadnought buiild.. highergroundpoa.proboards.com/thread/22629. Would that work? And again, I'd like to go with Bastard sword or as before mentioned, greatsword.

Otherwise, I'll have to bug the bazaar for a different race for something to make a paladin or something

Since you are multiboxing a defensive CoT or life threader could work. There's a SuSu druid build designed for multibox that would be quite productive.

I like xDD personally, but acknowledge that it's more a style than a substance build, so if you're looking for damage output then you'll want to go in a different direction.
If you just want a "click-and-forget" meatshield then xDD is fine - especially if you have casters who can take advantage of the fear aura. DwD is another good choice for that role but the lack of mobility using Stoneguard is a bit of a dealbreaker imo.
(oh yeah, dump blindfight like @deso said....listen will suffice)

Hi guys, can explain what class are dsm or bfm tank.
In this moment I'm playing druid (really fun) and when I'll ready I'ld like to play a damage dealer meele. (I open a topic to receive your comment)

(I open a topic to receive your comment) DSM and BFM are short for dragonstorm mage and bloodfire mage. They are sorceror/Dragon Disciple combinations that make quasiclasses - a special class unique to HG.
