Curious: what's the issue this .MDL fixes?

It changes from the Hellball animation to Fireball. It taxes some people's computer and can cause crashes.

I resent the taxes some peoples computers, mine is definitely not a geriatric one and pre-fix it still fell over occasionally when Hellballs were in play!

I meant no offense, and I never found out what the cause was. My suspicion is that it overwhelms the GPU, but that is pure SWAG on my part.
The only time I personally saw the crash was back in the days of an old GeForce series card and a trip through the Yuan-Ti.

I run an AMD Ryzen 3900X (12 cores, 24 threads) and an RTX2080 and hellball routinely crashes my stuff. It crashed me so hard the other day in the abyss that I had to do a full power cycle and reinstall before the game would even boot again. This file in theory will prevent that from happening again.

tldr, NWN is an extremely poorly-optimized game, in various ways.

No, NWN is actually very well written and some parts are extremely efficient (take data usage for example). It just had to use some tricks with graphics drivers to get certain effects like shiny water. These hacks are less and less supported as new drivers come out and backward compatibility gets thrown out. For its time NWN is well written. Wait for EE, that should get rid of many issues like this.

EE is not gonna happen, that was the final word on that. Too much to port over. That's why the plugins are incoming.

You'll still be able to use EE client though mitigating lots of these issues.

For clarity's sake, we will still port to EE if we can find someone to port our plugins. Otherwise, no. The plugin to allow login to our servers via the EE client is still planned, however. Funky
