I was very excited to make a GI, knowing i could get all the juicy KV data from limbo and mechanus when it drops. I had little expectations of the class, other than using it as a KV bot. But i thought that surely WIZ CC GI couldn't be THAT bad? I was excited to try out this Portable cannon with a 24wiz 16rug GI! and to my dismay it was worse than expected! the problem was monsters could kill the cannon in a few blows (I had assumed the cannon was unkillable but found out it has the defenses of a level 3 goblin).
I think that if the cannon was made UNKILLABLE and its DMG doubled, it would make me happier. It wouldn't help the class especially, but could give it a fun use in fights like Defending Pelor and massing maps (assuming it doesn't kill the party on KB mobs, which is likely). Plus happiness is important.
Can you make it so mobs can walk through it? Invincible cannon with good damage with a duration tied to levels? Not exactly like, but close to Cry of the Heavens for Bard. It drops an undispellable cloud which nukes, you set it, and duration only eliminates it. You set up and prepare the cannon and off it goes. Similar to the special suit the GI wears for true KD immunity, and other things, the GI makes the cannon out of epic stuff. Then you have a viable ability, similar to another classes ability which also fits thematically and feels good.
Unkillable summons are problem in themselfs not a solution to a generally bad summon and its mechanics.
The canon has many many flaws making it unusable. Being easily destroyd even by LL Area Monsters is just one thing. - You cannot move it. - You can only assemble it out of combat. = no use in a boss fight. - Range is huge, but still no use for a whole map. - Needs line of sight to attack - Way to weak damage (still) - 1 Attack per round. Draws aggro alot, does little to the mobs. - Lacks any kind of specialty in its shots or adjustment features for damage types and such. - No control about it firing or not. - Dumb autotargeting always the closest mob instead of a bulk of 10 critters further ahead. - Has no immunity to dispels of any sort. = unbuffable to help it survive. (but even with buffs, right now it is still way to weak) - Makes you crash more often, when it is summoned. - Get´s spontaniously unsummoned when you transition areas (sometimes, sometimes not. there seems to be no pattern to it) EDIT Totally forgot: - Kills itself on any KB from Monsters
Why would we create an unkillable tankbot that has nothing to do with the purpose of the summon? This doesn't seem like a very well thought-out suggestion.
Every character has access to BBOD RODS which can MOVE and be SUMMONED IN COMBAT, obviously the cannon dealing damage as well as being unkillable makes it a new beast. But my thought process wasnt to use it as a tank bot.The HARPEE is a massive canon that requires setup and cant move. I didnt want to change the fundermentals of this cannon, rather make it useable.. As alot of unfortunate tank players have found out, you cant deal damage when you are dead.this means the most important fix for the cannon to alow it to deal sustained damage is for it not to die(it would be unsummoned on GI death) (I think one of the main purposes of this cannon is to deal sustained damage over a duration). It could be untargetable(stealth weave plating) and unkillable, I just though that may be more work to script and would lead to bugs making the cannon not fire.
To Manuka's point, an unkillable tankbot as stated already exists. You've given it to the players with BBOD rods. Every player can summon them, unlimited versions of them. It's how a lot of groups learned / still handle Limbo. They drop 5+ BBODs to distract everything and and let it settle / pick stuff off / distract. etc. With this already existing, and in a much more widely useable / accessible fashion, it shouldn't be a deterrent for the cannon.
