This is so fun to see old players who are coming back on the game, i just hope more will come back, i remember the time where we was so many players ( at this time there was no bots ) then we had hard time to find enough spot on servers to build a party of 10 to go on a run, and to do this we had to ask to solo or little party if they would hop server to allow a big party to go on a run.
At this time we saw the hub 4 open to have 5 more servers to be able to accomodate players to play, this was the good old time, i just hope there will be more old players to come back to have this happen again.

Funky Well there are so many work who was done and still going by you and the dev team. i think the players who are gone since years if they come back they will be very surprise and happy to see all the awsome change who was done since. It has been a good time for sure. Seeing how many people are online and playing, the changes happening on the server, progression on Mechanus and constant dialogue between Devs and players, theorycrafting and the surprisingly unified community effort coming to fruition on all sides. Sure brings a nice breath of fresh air while and despite the various difficulties outside the screen. Some sunshine eh

It's nice to be back. Had a mini-me, so devoted my time to him instead. just waiting for intel to release a desktop processor on 10/7nm that also supports PCIe 4 then the munchkin can have this PC hehe.
Over the past several years I've kept lurking in forums, so been able to keep up with progress, feels I can fit back in pretty smoothly.

you'll be waiting a long time for an intel 10mm pcie 4 processor, let alone 7mm.
intel won't even have pcie 4 support till rocket lake, which only the most naive or gullible believe to actually be 10mm (instead of 14+++++++++++++++++ as bleak realism predicts).
10mm intel architecture is hardly less of a pipe dream in 2021 than it was in 2018 and 7mm is absolutely out of the question.
i'd suggest a ryzen 3 for the kid (or yourself) until you absolutely require a new intel cpu; and buying any gen prior to whatever solid 2nd/3rd gen of new node that comes after rocket lake, would be inadvisable, so i wouldn't recommend letting money for a next-gen intel start burning a hole in your pokect till at least q4 2022.

yeah, i know AMD have been doing very well the past 3yrs, i guess the dream was intel would atleast competitively price against them, as i am currently using a 5820k (6 core 12 thread @ 4.2GHz all core) I have no immediate need to upgrade, i guess im just looking for an excuse to treat myself haha. definitely dont want the lil one growing up on consoles and turning into a 3 fingered mutant hehe

i'm not an amd fanboy by any means, but they earned your money rn tbh
intel cpus are still so far ahead of any competition for high-powered gaming and pure processor brute force that their old gens are still honestly overpowered (literal usage) for most consumer context, especially gaming, so they also earned your money on the choice cpus of 14mm node (there's something for everyone, just pick the niche you need)
ryzen 3/4 will age far better, as software development continues to evolve into the multi-thread space, and unless you're doing esport-level gaming on AAA titles at QHD+, or serious processor-dependent workload for business (editing, compiling etc), there's not much need for chasing intel's latest-n-greatest
so you can't really lose either way. just don't expect pcie 4 on a new node for a while, and as always, expect the new node to completely suck for at least 1-2 more gens following a final 10mm arch release

I see discussion of intel here - I gave it the good old college try this weekend to get the game to work and finally managed to load into the docks after a 10 min loading screen - was unable to transition between areas though without crashing and read that this was probably due to the integrated intel(r) HD graphics card on my old laptop.
I uninstalled everything again for now because I royally messed up the NWN directory trying to get it to work. If anyone has a fix or suggestion I would like to give it another try. I read that having the 'console' up somehow is a work around but I did not know how to do that or what the 'console' was really.

After installing the basic game and updating it to the final patch level I normally use arf2 (see wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Getting_Started ) to make sure everything is up to date and tweak what I want it to look like before I dive in. Unless your laptop is positively pre-historic it should run the game OK (let's be realistic NWN in no way can be described as a new game), the only Intel specific problem that I remember is the ear destroying noise you get when entering Llolths sanctum. Just in case, unlikely though it is, whats's the processor and RAM situation on the laptop and if it is internal graphics how much has it got allocated to the graphics chipset (OMG that's making me go back to when I first used to play). |

Thanks Chain - I will look into the processor and RAM situation (don't have the laptop with me at present). If nothing else I am learning about tech stuff on which my knowledge is sorely lacking. Gotta find something to do whilst the pubs are shut right !
I will reinstall - as I understand it you need to download 1.69 critical build first - then CEPv 2.3 (not the latest one) then the HG specific hak. Unzip it all and place them in the NWN folder. There was something I read that said that arf2 did not automatically do this atm.

Download them run arf2 and it will ask you for what it needs, whilst a laptop should be good for it some places like to sell them with a cripplingly low amount of RAM and or small storage drive which could possibly slow down area loads.

14nm wouldn't be such a todo if the industry would replace the factories to actually produce stacks instead of single layer.
After all, discovery of printing multi-layer circuits dates back to turn of the century, but didn't get implemented because it couldn't be done in the existing factory infrastructure. Greedy buggers don't want to spend the outlay for a technology that would bypass current limitations because there would be a loss before the profits.

it's a pretty nuanced conversation, and i'm not sure we're both talking quite the same dialect here (so to speak--oof pun). but i derailed enough already, so i'll let that one be. i think it's a topic well worth your time and energy to research, however. cheers. kratlin if you can provide some specifics we might be able to be of more help. since it's a laptop it should actually be far less information than a pc (given it's a pre-packaged module of hardware, and not a custom-built desktop-hardwared machine) -Laptop model (to include specifics of hardware, year, etc) -BIOS version -If applicable, intel driver software chipset mgmt system -Windows version -audio driver(s) -video driver (you have only the integrated intel gpu, is that correct?) I suspect that chain's right on the money here, or if it's not specifically a bottleneck or throttling issue, it'd be easier to pinpoint if we knew what hardware you're running, and what settings you have checked for a handful of ingame values (audio, video). |
