Thank you for the update! And thanks for all the hard work done by the devs to make this place so great. Much appreciated!

Yet another update! The new host has a set of test servers set up. You can connect to it by connecting to 51.79.102.17. This is running a week or two old backup of HG (and the database and vault are a little out of sync, so you might see some things be slightly off there). There are currently five servers set up (a copy of Hub 1 ( 111), plus Party 1-2 through Party 1-4 ( 112 through 114) as well as Roleplay 1 ( 119)). Once you're connected to the test Hub 1, you'll be able to use the normal !portal command to connect to the other servers. Nothing you do on these servers will be persistent - when we migrate we'll make a completely fresh copy of the latest live vault. So feel free to go wild and do things you wouldn't normally do - and let us know in this thread if you see any bugs or problems! Also let us know how the performance is - the new hardware is a HUGE upgrade over the old hardware. Note that unless you are a very old character, you may not have any ring charges on Party 1-2 through Party 1-4 until you visit a pedestal. Conversely, if your character predates 2010, you may see some interesting relics or other things show up from HG's original hosting (probably just ring charges, but there might be some old server messages hanging around or something). Side note: Several of you have made very generous donations through PayPal - thank you very much! One thing we'd like to ask is that if you donate through PayPal, if you would like to be mentioned in our in-game donator list, please make sure you let us know (in the donation) what name you'd like to be credited as.
Thanks, Acaos and the HG Team

So, had a bit of fun on 51.79.102.17. First thing i done was go to min, do a few fight, then drop evards on the tears, for fun: I got alot of tears to split then looked at how it would go. In the beginning it was smooth, it took maybe 12 rounds before it got a bit rough using evards. After roughly 25 rounds, others couldn't log in, it would time them out. When i used !cancel aoe, it took nearly 3 mins for it to clear evards x2 and cold cloud. Within 10 seconds of clouds being cleared, server was back to normal, no lag left or anything. It was very nice, definitely noticeable. Next up, with someone else on the server, a trip to zio. Let's have babies! (carefully delivered from the Madman in town): This was surprising. A huge difference from when i tried this not long after abyss released on live servers. I remember on live, about 20 ekolids were causing issues. On the new servers, there are so many! and was no noticeable lag at all! Then came the evards test. That slowed the server a good amount. Once it was all cleared, the lag cleared almost instantly! My take on those couple of tests are that the new servers can take a hit and still recover very nicely and very quickly from it.

So ran another test, this time the goal was to kill a server. They had an hr left until reset, so figured id see what's the worst i could do. As you can see, 112 wasnt showing on my alts server list anymore which i cropped into the screenshot. In this one, i started evards/evards/acid fog on tears to generate alot of damage and kickback to be calculated at 1:48UTC, and lasted until 2:18UTC. So lasted 30 mins of punishment. logs start slowing down at 1:58, so 10 mins to get some proper lag going, later on it slowed down to 3 minutes to log information.

With the increased server performance, will the server player caps be upped for party servers to support two parties at once - up to 26 players from 16 currently?

I was wondering if there were any updates on an ETA for the migration? The servers really deteriorate, especially during US evenings. Characters regularly catch and freeze and then require being relogged mid-run which costs a rest that otherwise would never have to be used. Random crashes. Just lots of little things that are going up in frequency and severity. I'd love for these to all go be gone again. Thank you for the time and attention.

I apologize for the delay - I had intended to finish this weekend but had an illness in the family. The new server VMs are all set up so I just need to finish the actual NWN install and then do a final data copy. With luck, that will be next weekend.

With the increased server performance, will the server player caps be upped for party servers to support two parties at once - up to 26 players from 16 currently? This is a good question. Right now we limit them to roughly one party so a party can have the entire server to themselves. Is the issue that there are not _enough_ party servers? The new VM host would support a Hub 4 if necessary (which would come with 4 more party servers as well). Acaos

Given the prevalence of multi-boxing, and just what generally seems like more people during specific time periods, there sometimes isn't a place to go for a group to do runs. I think lately you have players running the spectrum of early game, LL, and end-game and there being significant chunks in each break point which further fractures the player base resulting in the at times, need for extra space.

I'll set up and allocate Hub 4 then on the new host. That should help significantly.

Good news, everyone! The new server is up for a final test. You can access it at 158.69.144.21 (this will probably be the permanent IP). Notes: - This is running a very recent (and newer) backup of Higher Ground. When we actually move, we will do a final sync.
- You can use the !portal command to hop to the various servers.
- Hubs 1-4 and all their associated servers are available.
My intention is to do the final sync and move later this week or on the weekend. Just like our previous moves, a portal server will be left up on the old address that will guide people to the new one (for as long as the hardware lasts). Again, my apologies for the delay. Acaos

Excellent. My intention is that on Saturday or Sunday I will migrate HG. It should take no more than an hour or two.

For what it's worth, I tested character creation and the first few lowbie quests and tags, death/fugue and got myself thrown in jail
