So, something happened this weekend that merits a bit of a discussion. But first, a thank you.
To all those who pledge on Patreon in response to Acaos' post, thank you. We are in the final steps of setting up new cloud hosting, and we appreciate you for helping to support what we do here. Truly. On behalf of the entire Team, thank you.
So, the incident. One of our donors asked a DM for a favor. Nothing too serious, and nothing obviously inappropriate, assuming what they said was accurate. However, this raises an issue that goes to a core policy of ours, one which has never and will never change. To wit: we do not accord preferential treatment to anyone based on donations, for the same reason we have never supported pay-to-play features, buying of subraces with real money, or anything else that would advantage someone ingame.
This policy necessarily means that we bring in less money than we could, but it preserves another more important principle: a completely level playing field, to the extent we are able to regulate it.
So, whether or not you are a donor, requests for fixes/bug reports/etc need to be posted in a public forum, not privately messaged to staff. Seeking help on discord is ok, and you can alert staff by flagging @dm in the chat, but under no circumstances should you privately message anyone asking for favors of any kind. If you are not comfortable positing the request publicly, then do not make it - with one exception. That exception is if you are being harassed online by a player, in which case you are free to report it privately to one of the Admins for investigation and appropriate action. Other than that, if you screwed up a reinc, botched a levelup, or lost a bankchest, or anything else, post in BPR and we will assist if we are able and appropriate.
This policy exists for many reasons which I do not have the time to elaborate on, and it is not up for debate.
That said, if you have questions or comments, feel free to make them here.
Thanks,
Funky
