In hindsight much of the problem I was focusing on was alleviated by the enhanced zoom of the hg client. Was almost like trying to adjust to playing Counterstrike in first person mode. Being the obsessive type I often find myself focusing on a small part while solutions are all around me and the first impulse is to try to tweak the environment rather than adjust to what is.
Comments on how flatfoot is implemented aside, I kinda started rambling before thinking it out.
Flatfoot management does seem more micromanagement than engagement in a way, with sometimes having to spam and unqueue OR being fluid on the move seeming counterproductive in a way, but the only real solution that keeps the intent of flatfoot intact would probably be to put a .5 or so second delay on flatfoot kicking in to account for pathing glitches or such, which is unneccesary in a way but more QoL.
Staying on your toes is fun, and engaging and rewarding. Battles are more fun when they are thrilling and skill based rather than just a grind or gear check. But the less than optimal(and often illogical or even glitchy) implementation issues is less fun when the 0 second margin of error can mean instant death.
Playing with the limited zoom just made it harder to adjust, but having practiced a little more with the enhanced zoom I can chuckle that I started rambling before thinking more (I can be kinda famous for that be forewarned!)
Wouldn't have been as much as an issue in my head if it wasn't for mobs you don't want to be swinging at or wasting unneccesary spells/chuggin potions just not to get hit... just to prove you're paying attention. It's all in the zoom I guess.
Well hope the thread was more entertaining than watching paint dry, and off to my next crusade against how defensive combat mode is implemented in nwn and how to fix it!
Muhaha, I claim and blame 20/20, if you know what I mean.
