With the latest patch, tags just got a lot harder (RIP bringing along cleric for rez support.)
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a strong build to leave at leave at level 30, that can help out with all the 30-36 tags. (and then probably need another one at 37 for the 37-38 tags)
I'm thinking a sorc would probably be the best bet, maybe with something crazy like summon dragon knight?

From what I remember Sorc has been king in terms of tag progression. Just make sure you have spells that do exotic damages (FoD for example) for the dragons.

Yep, last few times I've done it IGMS has been really helpful.
I recently leveled using 3 naked sorcs and sat my high level cleric in-front of bosses for tanking (out of party).
Since that wont work anymore, I figure it might be worth the effort to actually plan and gear something specifically for this purpose.

I use a Yuan-Ti sorc (29sorc/1pal) with fullplate, autostill, rapier wit (for Hel), geared like a tank. With 90AC and defensive spells it can easily do all the lvl 30 tags and most of 35. Problematic ones are Queen Spider (I should get sneak imm), Dragon Disciple north of Gaobin (nasty traps, lots of attacks) and Water Shrike (Claps hurt a lot). Shadow Pontiff is hell on earth with so much exo/eso dmg and implosions. Might make a second soak tank just for those tags.

I humbly redirect you to Teleben as I know he has successfully managed to get immortal characters in the 25-30 range in Hardcore mode.

Sorcerer at all level appropriate areas is king. Take at least one (3 is amazing if you have race, or can fit it) metamagic feats to be able to machine gun down bosses with IGMS using multiple spell levels. Weird, Wail and Bigby 9 see off a load of other stuff. Sunburst for all undead and rogue specters. Ice Storm for various things. COD & UD2D can be useful but are tied to HD, so YMMV Wall of Fire (stone) can be strategically very useful, eg in zhents. Always take greater sanc, your GV will not be good enough at this stage probably. Shalgaerns Blade (level 1 summon) is amazing, you could always take BBOD if you can fit it or get scrolls. An early paladin level (reinc at 40 if you need) gives much wanted survivability through saving throws. Before doing llolth, switch in meteor swarm to smash down the things outside the room, then mords and bigby 9 every llolth form and igms down. For the immo, just take a run to the RAA first and pick up DOM (necro epic) then.. IGMS him down.

The 40 tags aren't an issue, can always shackle something for that

You're a boxer, so you can just run abcd and 2 tanks, I've never used an over leveled cha to help with tags, when you can just level a balanced party you don't need to. Sorc handles everything up to 30ish and tanks do everything after. Shouldn't need a helper toon at all.

Complete joke with 3+. Reinc at 40 means you get to choose your party setup with full freedom. I've ran several setups leveling the actual characters I wanted to play at 40+, but avoided it in some other scenarios by just running a monk + 1-2 casters (monk to get around faster, do tank dmg, and caster to kill bosses and buff up the monk) and then reincarnating at 40 before immo to what I actually meant to play.
