I just ran the Gaping Maw, this afternoon but I do not seem to have any of the tags (boss, nor minibosses) Did I miss some step along the way? I tagged Zionyn without issue.
. . . I only remember hitting one of the intermediate portals (the one in the lava) was that the issue? Where is the second intermediate portal?

What does your progression skull say? This is a relatively common experience for Abyss newcomers especially those playing characters for which regular rests are not required to keep them effective as the 1 vs 2 ring charges does not impact on them so much, however it is a mistake you are unlikely to forget when you are doing future Abyss runs. The basics are here wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Abyss#Other_Notes I would advise reading it if you want to limit potential errors.

If you can remember the bit where I showed you to go through a transition to get to the other side of a gap where there were some yuanti to death magic.
The abyss portal was just at that transition (just before the 'jump'). We all rested there so not sure how you missed it. Shifter isn't one of those classes you are likely to not take a presented rest opportunity.
Another even more common trap that I have no doubt will occur to you at some point is not getting a tag because it was done as a prince and you already had it as a prince. Or even more annoying is when you think you had the tag, until you do the run to get your vestige, and then realise you didnt have al the wands because you forgot to click on a portal on of the previous runs.
It's a good habit on abyss runs to ALWAYS click on the portals, even if you dont need to.

Don’t know how I missed the portal click. Ah well, I still got 1.5mm xp! And now I know where it is for the next time (although I have since forgotten where the portal to the lava is. smh) Motivation to run it again (although I am hoping to hit Azz, next, so that I can start using that torch in Rona!) Thanks for the the notes. (And for the run)

Ah well, I still got 1.5mm xp! And now I know where it is for the next time (although I have since forgotten where the portal to the lava is. smh) No need to remember where the portal is in Pazunia, only where to enter it in the run itself (GM in this case). If you missed the first one, you need to do the whole run again, that is GM 1-3. You need to attune to the portals in order. If you, say, hop into part 2, you won't get credit. First portal in GM is behind the gap with Yuanti (just before you go under water). Second GM portal is right after the big ugly Sibriex, over a very narrow bridge with a trap in the middle.

Regardless, I will keep an eye out and remember to ask the vet's, next time! :-D

No you do not need to know that, the only reason for missing a portal attunement is if you are not actually watching when the rest of the party clicks on the portal as there is a very obvious message about attunement generated at that point, the exception being if the entire party are new players who have not played there before (they could still ask for tips or look at the wiki before starting). In the case you have highlighted here the party told you to make sure you clicked on the portals.

it happens, we did a than last night and someone forgot to click on the first portal, we have all done it on more than one occasion. It's not the kind of run you can solo without boxing though Jericle, so it's just a case of needing to run it again with a group. call the run and make sure you have a balanced party.

Oh goodness, I was _definitely_ not implying that I would ever try that solo! :-D
I was just trying to find out what to keep an eye out for the next time somebody is kind enough to carry me through it! These runs are very hectic for an eternal newb like me, so, as happened, I missed people tagging the portal. Knowing the location on the GM side would be a backup alert.
And, for the record, I _really_ enjoyed the run. Thanks, grasluk, boroie . . . tritone? . . . et al for letting me join. Even more thanks for all the advice. With your help, I think I may have even gotten a kill count near the top (I can’t quite recall, but it was definitely better than the times I barely beat the ‘bots! ;-) )
