Title. It's annoying that the cool sabrequestganger is limited to shady shitters, droods and the like, and left in the UR tier to rot. What about a cooler, stronger one more akin to greater doppleganger, the types to physically assault and assassinate enemies via sneak attack they don't expect due to their shifty nature statwise and all? Maybe some cooler idea of a base race could spawn from this. I also love alternative subrace /model -looking characters, so there's that.
Name: Mirrorkin (or something else?)
Tier: XR
Base race: any. Versatility of the doppleganger! It fits. If gotta pick one, then human/elf and medium (booooriiiing).
No BC or FC for xp stuff.
Size: That of Base Race.
Appearance: that of doppleganger in Limbo, unless they go through a process [ or alternative access to different looks/models that isn't the secret/dm sourced? ] ; perhaps could have pcscry option to swap between pre-set races (maybe human / elf / vampire / halfling ... )
Stats:
+2 str
+4 dex
+2 con
+4 int
+2 wis
+2 cha
Bonus feats:
Dodge
Sneak Attack (+1d6)
Improved Sneak Attack: (+3d6)
Extra: Immunity: Charmed, Immunity Sleep, Hide +10, Move Silently +10, Tumble +6. Shadowy nature, cause for concealment?
Stat Total: +16; specialist in none, weak in none. Feats: 4, but they're awkward by nature. Basic sneak attack is to enable Imp. sneak attack to function even if you dont progress further into them.
Thoughts:
Tier could be SXR (Secret XR - a tier similar to the Secret tier, dropped instead of RNG purchase with canos - perhaps from a Limbo mini boss, or Hard Mode Ssendam rare drop, or a very rare secret drop via searching in Limbo & Beyond content). Anything that encourages to farm something instead of maximizing cano pool and making tradeoffs there.
-- Stat/Feat selection reasoning:
Wis + Cha were more lore induced than HG builder sourced. This stat/feat spread awkwardly points towards some sort of monk/pala/bg splashed rogue/sd/assa creature, not very minmaxed for HG building. The skills are there to enable shenanigans for sd/assa builds, even if no XR tier assa would necessarily want to pick this sub. Would provide interesting damage assassin theorycrafting, but it's not a very viable build archetype on HG. Would make not-terrible dexer Assassins. Dopplegangers ability to shift forms is across various fantasy mediums including DND suitable for sneaky behaviour, ambushes and the like; as such, the bonus feats & dex/int.
Not as good as Armand, but competitive for rogue types especially those that splash monk/pala. For a generic class race, not as good as Deathless, but not bad. Doesn't work for casters, but could work well for castermelee druid / melee shifters, granted they may prefer item sourced sneak attacks. I always hated that the cool alternative model race was so WIS -oriented, so this higher tier one would be more generalistic in nature that can do anything with mediocre potential of a BUR/XR Race, so you can enjoy your fantasy of anything with this race. Obviously it makes pretty terrible casters, but any tank-archetype is potentially doable, just not a powergamers' choice.
Unsure if the feat amount should be 2d6? Basically its a +16 2 feater with poor focus if its 2d6, but 3d6 seems high. I like the idea anyway.
Edit: added in Dodge to make it more appealing for the Shadowdancer -prestige class, but not mobility to keep Urdunnir the superior for WM splashed variant of SD. Still has lesser feat totals than most compareable races, unless it starts human which would draw it pretty even in terms of stats/feats assuming we count +sneaks for something.
I am not sure if the feats would stack with item -sourced feats; I came up with the idea with the assumption that they DO NOT; as such, it wouldn't be op for general tanks (free dam yo); since they should probably regardless use some form of item-sourced sneak attack damage for minmaxing damage against sneak vulnerable monsters. If it stacks it's probably too good.
-- Not related to power thoughts:
If the sabrequest is too time-intensive on Devs and that's the reason why it hasn't been followed up on in tiers beyond the UR; then maybe it's a scrapped idea. Was a funny thought though, and I think it'd make for a cool start to "SXR" -tier subs as an idea, if that were to ever happen.
Sidenote: Buff Neraphim, Dracotaur, Ibixian and other curious looking fuglies!
