I'm gonna stick my foot in my mouth [well both, actually], quite firmly and just note that I've only ever seen two PW's that require players save their chars - out of about 20 or so, including several which are in early beta. The point I'm making is, surely this is possible to make the char save on logout without taxing the server too much? You have any idea how many times people login and out of the server daily? With that technique in operation, the server would be saving itself nonstop. You have a SAVING PEN, which can be used once per rest. There is no excuse for the game NOT to be saved, especially with a 20 person limit (with 20 people in game, I dont want to hear complaining that no one saved, because it is your own fault!).

Not sure what brought on this thread. Perhaps I can remove all the foots for you guys. When you log out, the server saves your character. Everytime. It doesn't save ALL characters......just yours. Every time. The saving pen saves ALL characters and everytime I've DMed I've seen the 'All characters saved' log run every 30 secs or so. Not only THAT, but the server itself autosaves every 10 mins. The only time you might lose any data from your char is from a crash, in which case you CANNOT lose more than 10 mins worth of playing. Before all the denies start coming in, I'd like to point out that these scripts come from the original PoA itself. We didn't write them, and we sure aren't going o remove them. I hope this clears up any confusion or misconceptions about the Autosaving features of Higher Ground.
