I'm pretty sure i read a thread asking about areas that need tweaking, as far as difficulty, but I can't for the life of me find it, so i posted here. I remember the plains of war being specifically mentioned as an area that should be changed, and it was (i believe in May). I have recently played there and found it much more fun than before the changes. Another area that no one ever goes to (except to run thru) is the Drow Tunnels. Compared with fox trail , plains of war, zhents, web and guardians, these drow are just plain whimpy.
It seems odd to me to because at levels 25-35 you can get decent xp at the other areas, but once you get by them it gets much , much easier. The only characters that would be challenged by the drow here cant get by the plains of war, thus, no one ever fights them. I would like to see these guys get beefed up, in terms of toughness and xp. In the interest of being as helpful as possible, i did some playtesting with a relatively weak lvl 31 build (monk/fighter/ assassin ac 69 ab 43 hp 502) and here were my results.
Plains of War - i got pretty good xp here 127 for restless archers, 136 for restless sentinel (all results playing solo)
i could hit them often, and they hit me, but i didnt need to heal often.
Fox Trail - xp was less, but these guys can be critted and wailed. I got 49 xp for weregoats and they were hitting me too.
Dark Glade and Drow tunnels - Here is where it gets out of whack (IMO) Drow Raider was worth only 11 xp, Lieutenant was worth 30, Drider Raider was 27, and Drow Artillery 24. They didnt hit me often, tho i had to heal for the Artillery cause i had no magic resist on (They were IGMSing or ILMSing me, not sure which). I did have trouble with the Drow Skirmisher that i encountered on the third level of the Tunnels, but there were only 1 or 2 of them ( i forgot to get heals, and didnt get a chance to kill one, so i dont know the xp value)
I would like to see the drow in these areas beefed up, maybe to somewhere between Wereboars and Guardians in terms of toughness and xp. May want to remove some of the spawns in the Drow Tunnels as there are ridiculous amounts of these guys, i'm guessing thats why they werent changed already, quantity instead of quality. It would also be nice if difficulty ramped up slightly at each level down, maybe add some mages on level 2 or 3, or maybe some Drey slaves, more skirmishers or some monsters from the Drider Cave, which seems fine to me in terms of toughness.
Personally I would rather have it be a challenging (for lvl 30ish) place with less spawns, there are a good number of loot drops and people head out there often to get to guardians, it just seems a shame that once guardians are dead its back to town ( and Razhids, if i do another 20 lap razhids run my head will explode). I feel making the Drow tunnels a viable place to level and get loot will add to the diversity of the pre Manatakloss areas. I really like the web and zhents, and if the Drow Tunnels were on par with them it would make all the areas east of crossroads really cool for lvl 25-35. Just a suggestion, something ive been thinking about, as there isnt too much to do except guardians and razhids at those levels (30-35) before you're ready to head to the docks for your xul tag.
