If I am reading the rules right, I am able to be a member of as many guilds that will take me, as long as I have that many characters.
What is the general consensus from guilds/guild leaders to date regarding this?
I've been kicking around the idea of having a guild but I'm not sure how to address multiple memberships. It seems to me, that it could be easily exploited with respect to things like shared loot, spying during wars, etc.
If you have addressed this within your guild, I would love some insight.
TIA ss

Well, I am not a leader of any guilds, but a member of two (the Red Wizards and Eternal Order). The main reason I joined multiple was because the Red's only cater to one type of player really: Staffmaster's (or some variation thereof). So you are limited with them, but at the same time, I'm really glad I joined them, and have had some great adventures with guild-mates. EO is a newer guild, and caters to a wide variety of characters. I've played with a number of people in that guild as well, and they're all really great people. No, as for joining multiples, and what the guild leaders think, I will tell you that I asked this exact question when EO formed. I really wanted to join, but was already (happily) a Red Wizard. So I spoke with both leaders, and DragonChyld (RW's) and DragonLance_007 (EO) were both more than happy to let me belong to both guilds. You're right that this could be exploited. This is typically why guild leaders only allow in people whom they trust. It is just a game, with plenty of exploits, but I made a pledge myself to never share items, gold, and if possible information, between guilds. Everyone seemed to understand this, and they were more than fine with it. So, in summary, yes, you may enlist different characters in different guilds. And really it's just up to the honesty system to be sure you don't use this ability to your advantage. I would guess that if it becomes a problem (there seem to be a number of new guilds popping up, possibly increasing the number of people who join them), Funky or someone will write a script that puts a guild token on your ACCOUNT rather than your character, to prohibit this. So I say...GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF!

I can say a thing or two for the McFobs. For us, we would never limit a member to _just_ making McFob toons. That said, it is frowned upon, since we party together heavily, and by doing that, we forge strong links between all members.
There are certain instances where being involved in other groups is no problem at all, and actually adds to our house's play. For instance, we have had our members take seats on political councils, enter into Mage guilds, or even contract out as mercs. The difference here is that they did all this as McFobs, so there was never a conflict of interest.
I think the heart of it is the name you wish to carry. There is no conflict of interest if you, for interest, have an [EO] toon that is a staff master, and also part of the red wizards(And I hope that no one takes offense to that, I am not sure what either guild is about)
I think it is also fair to say, the more you put into your guild the more you and your guild gets back. Just another reason to stick with one.
Cheers,
Infamy

While I think most guild leaders will not have a problem with having different characters belong to different guilds, Funky's rules state that one character should not belong to more than one guild:
i. Each character may only belong to ONE guild. It will be nigh impossible for a character to obtain a guild token for more than one guild. If your character IS able to infiltrate a guild somehow, you are welcome to do so.
I'm not sure what the last line there means, but it is probably there for a reason. Anyway, that's my only reason for saying you need to keep characters in different guilds separate from one another.

It's all about having fun with your NWN and HG gaming. Seriously, I was heavily involved with another PW that I dearly loved and put alot of work into, it broke my heart when it ceased to be enjoyable. Keep the fun your focus always. Rock on peeps!

the last part is in there for war type stuff i beleave i.e. covert opps ( the gathering of info)
imo if a person is in multi guilds its a conflict of interest, simple put the person could obtain info regaurding raids or hits on the opposing guild.

Yes, but not all guilds are opposing... For instance, the only person in in my guild that is also in another guild is in The Red Wizards. The Eternal Order has a strong allience with The Red Wizards so there is no conflict of interest whatsoever. I believe that it should be decided by the Guild Leader/s and thier first in command (or even the whole guild) if someone that is in another guild with one character should be able to be in your guild aswell. Just the 2 cents of a Guild Leader. ~DL_007

You are correct not all guilds are but who is to say that it will always be that way. S*** happens sometimes u can pick it up before someone steps in it, sometimes u are just to late. But in all honesty this is just my 2 cents as a guild leader and felt i needed to post since my guild ran into this problem recentally.
