Dear Dr. Phil, I'm a non-hell runner (just yet) but been in the server for five months now, have done a lot of sissy and thids. I never bank the loots even if my toon is capable of doing it, just so because i once did in a sissy run and i was asked by one party member if there were any UR so far, i looked and noticed none (thinking the three loots that went broke from spells could've had the UR ones and we lost em). however, in a different run, i just let others bank and they somehow manage to pop UR items way easy, thinking how come i can't pop UR items like they do? am i jinxed, hexed or something? lmao sincerely, merchant

Nah, You've got bad luck when you pop 9 URs (or BURs in hell) and you roll 10th Play until the sun comes up and the birds sing and you should see an UR or two (or BURs in hell).. -Bort p.s. Don't forget the other LL runs, such as Beholders, Rona, Pyramid..

i have the feeling that the loot drops may differ depending on the server time, but i have no evidence for this. your mileage may vary

I have a pretty good popping record, and can't be jinxed despite some people's fears. My loot rolls used to be bad, and I had a run of nothing above 8th in Hell for a month or so... but lately it's improved. In the past week I've won four UR rings, the Pyramid Energy, three UR race books, and various other UR odds and ends. Also a Rona shield. No theory seems to me sound where probability is concerned. I can discern no pattern, and the DMs have said in the past that there is indeed none. You may be having a run of bad luck, but thinking yourself somehow cursed or trying to predict a pattern in loot pops and rolls will only frustrate you. Just sit back, enjoy the game, and if you win something good, hey, that's a bonus!

I was keeping track for a bit of my looting runs from one area (solo), and the results of random chance can vary a lot, with 13 loot spots, from 0 to 7 duds, and from all junk on one run to 3 URs (including 1 ring and 1 book) on a single run. I remember desert runs with no URs, and ones where we were very happy for a single UR, and desert runs with 5 URs and a few rare immunity rings.

illandous1: When will talking about loot %'s end illandous2: Probally never. illandous3: Want to flip a coin again? illandous1: Oh OH! I bet it comes up heads this time! illandous2: *sigh* fine...

I need to make a toon named Rosencrantz to pop loot. But then is Heads akin to a UR or a dud? "What are you playing at?" "Words. Words. They're all we have to go on." or for Illandous: "I think I have it. A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself." "Or just as mad" "Or just as mad." "And he does both." "So there you are." "Stark raving sane."

"See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?" - Signs
Rather than see your loot outcomes as the result of random chance, ask yourself instead, what is this outcome preparing me for? Even the simple lesson of acceptance, that this is how the universe is, can turn bad luck into something positive.

LOL Yomi! In that vein, a note about fugues and limbos:
"You see? It is the kind you do believe in." (Player talking about death after Guildenstern stabs him without realizing the knife is a trick knife)
EDIT: I should mention I read R&G are Dead recently... a couple times, in fact. Great play.

heh! coin sides and luck, just like any merchant like me do believes in (talking in character portrayal) of course, not all of us do! thus one merchant said "don't confuse luck with skill... wanna buy something from my wares? forgive the high prices, taxes are high recently which will last until the end of game play..." must make a new toon "Tag Collector" not TAX COLLECTOR he'll get mugged by atomies real fast... or name it "King of Bad Rolls" ... "why did you roll a 1 in a partyroll? who the hell do you think you are to take my throne?"

I just want to apologize to whatever gods I have offended, probably in my sorc's uselessness debate. I am sorry. I will repent in the name of actually getting anything above UR status on my next hells run. 10 and counting with nothing to show for it.
