I am new to HG and this anti logout system put some questions to mind>
What is it precisely?
I gathered that an item is lost whenever you log-out from a server.
Am I right?

Okay, first off welcome to HG ^_^
The logout system you are referring to is to prevent an old exploit that allowed you to log out instead of fugueing. What people would do on a wipe (eveyone in the party died) is just log out and go to another server. This prevented people from fuguing, which has a chance at item loss. Now, if you log out while dead, a skeleton appears over your body and counts a fugue timer in your place. That way, you will still fugue and you can't cheat the system. Someone can rez your skeleton so you won't fugue, but if the timer goes off and you log in, you will fugue.
Hope that made sense. and happy to help. -Stryker

Yeah, try not to logout while you're dead, at least if there isn't anyone near you.. to resurrect you. It won't save you from XP / Money or possible loot lose anyway.

You have a CHANCE to lose 1 item you have equipped. It's not always a loss, it's more like just a risk.

One item equipped at time of death. Swapping servers to switch items out won't help you either. Welcome to HG! Funky

Now if only the immortal would give back what he took..... That would actually be cool if there was a loot pile by the Immo that contained nothing but the loot lost from fugueing(or at the very least, a random assortment). This pile would be cleared on a server reset. Would be a total crapshoot in what you get, although the odds point to it being lowbee gear.

Oooh, that would be very cool! There could be several interim loot recovery quests... up to 40, Immo (though I can't imagine loosing anything irreplaceable up to 40). 41 to 47 DB, etc...
In a previous life, as a DM, when Archemlis would disarm lone adventurers in the Catacombs I would assign minions to guard the weapon(s) in some obscure location, thus creating an impromptu quest. Would be interesting to have some sort of automated system for doing something similar.
This would hamper the secondary purpose of fugue loss though...

Well, disarmed weapons are not fugue losses. It would be neat to have a monster pick up your weapon and run off with it if you forget to pick it up, allowing you to try and get it back. Not sure how that could be coded though.
