Well after talking to someone who's played a PM to a high level I've changed my mind about a few things.
-Add a pally level. That will get you all your armor feats. -The still spell feats are necessary because the concealment on PM's isn't as good at 60 as I originally thought. You lose a DC on your spells but the loss of 3 feats to armor is too expensive imo.
I don't see how much a Paladin level could benefit the character . . . true, you do free up three feats, but at the cost of one base caster level, combined with the fact that, as stated, I don't think Combat Casting is necessary. Of course, should you find it absolutely necessary, I'm not at all stopping one for substituting a Paladin level in -- it could be done very easily, I think.
My build (which I have not done due to lack of illy race) is 1 pal, 9wiz, 30pm. You need heavy armour no question. Pal gives you the armour feat and a minor save bonus (+6 or so). The other one I looked at was Ranger. You would only have medium armour but gain a feat.
Instead of adding a third class to the build (fighter, pally, bard) for the three armor prof. feats, you can wait until high levels and use a book to get epic spellfocus: necro, so this would free up another three feats (Wizards get a bonus feat at level 10 anyway, so pally only frees up two feats). My pale master gremoculous (currently at level 19) looks like this:
Abilities: Str. - Dex. - Con. max Wis. rest Int. max Cha. -
I went Derrzagon with 20 Int, 18 Con and 10 Wis, but you can switch the race and subrace around, this set-up would always be ok. Good subraces are: Derrzagon, Air Genasi and Illithid of course.
Preepic Feats: Toughness Combat Casting Shield Prof. Silent Spell Armor Prof.: light Armor Prof.: medium Empower Spell Spell Penetration (wizard bonus) Greater Spell Penetration (wizard bonus) Free feat of your choice, if you're using human + subrace (Max Spell, Preepic save feat)
Epic Feats: Armor Prof.: Heavy Great Int. I-VI Epic Spell Penetration (pm bonus) Auto Still Spell I-III (pm bonus) Imp. Combat Casting (pm bonus) Epic Spell of your choice (Epic warding or Dragon Knight) (pm bonus)
Legendary Feats: Legendary Spell Foucs: Necro (requires the book) Legendary Spell Penetration Great Int. VII-X Free feat of your choice (Armor Skin, Max Spell, Great Con I, LL save feat)
Something I just saw in the starting post: Don't go Wizard: Necromancy. You'll get one spell per day per grade (1-9), but you can't cast divination spells, so you can't cast power word: kill, which is modified for pms to be useful. Better stick with generalist or look for a school, that will let you cast necromantic and divination spells.
Hey, guys, i've made a build very similar to these you're talking about (9wiz/1fighter/30PM - Moonelf - my first char on HG), only difference is that i've picked up spring attack, don't you think this is useful? I find it very useful, indeed, cause with it I can move all around without being subject to attacks of opportunity, and with improved combast casting, i'm with a full anti-attack protection...
About the custom epic spells, i think necro and enchantment are the best for a PM, but what about abjuration? Im thinking in get it, cause mord dont seem to be caster lvl - dependent, it has no saves and no SR checks, am I wrong?
