first time posting a char build - was interested how people think this one will cope at higher levels (lev40+, as well as immo runs).
Race: Humanoid - Gnoll (alternative PT - Earth Genasi)
Starting stats (after race bonuses/penalties): Int 13, Dex 13, Str 21, Con 12, Wis 6, Char 6.
[Edit to levels: 27 Rogue/6 Fighter/7 WM]
Pre-epic feats (in rough order): Expertise, Dodge, Weap Focus: Scim, Mobility, Spring attack, Whirlwind attack, Improved Critical: Scim, Weapon Spec.: Scim, Power attack, Cleave, [Edit: Blind Fighting instead of Great Cleave]
Epic feats: Great Strength (II-IV), Epic Weapon Specialisation, [Edit - missed out: Epic Weapon Focus, Armour Skin], Improved Sneak Attack (remaining epic feats)
I'm unable to provide an exact level progression as I can't remember precisely the order I was planning on leveling was, but the main points are to take the first level as rogue (for bonus skill points), 3 early levels as fighter (for bonus feats and increased ab allowing you to gain wm levels sooner), taking wm to lev 5 straight away, then spreading out the remaining 3 fighter levels, with the final one at 39 (or the final two as 39+40 as an alternative).
Skills: Discipline (when taking a fighter/wm level, hence why spreading the fighter levels), Tumble, Search, Open Lock, Disable Trap, 4 points in intimidate (for wm requirements), and for any remaining points, choose between Spot, Use Magic Device, and Hide+Move silently.
Ability points - all put into strength
Equipment: Uses a scimitar (obviously!), preferably keen, along with a tower shield and full plate armour (these would need to be removed if you put skill points into hide+ms and wished to creep around a certain area unseen). Initially would wear dodge ac boots, ring of protection, and amulet of nat. armour to max out ac, as well as damage resistance/absorbing items to survive longer in battle (e.g. elemental ring, slashing res. helmet etc.). Also strength boosting items, although only to some extent, as can always purchase potions of bulls str. cheaply (so wont need as much to reach the +12 cap).
Pro's:
Massive damage - if the enemy isn't immune to sneak attacks or crit hits they're likely to take massive amounts of damage with each hit. Having 4 attacks/round at lev40 (5 with haste), with sneak attacks of ~21d6, crits x3 on a roll of 10-20 (assuming scimitar is keen), coupled with cleave means enemies will die very quickly if focused on someone else. near-maxed strength also ensures very high levels of damage.
Decent AC - thanks partly to tumble skill, while full plate armour with +1 dex modifier ensures it takes a while for dex based chars to be able to significantly overtake in terms of AC. Evasion is also more of an option against medium-tough opponents who can still be hit with a -5 penalty, but might be very hard to hit with the -10 penalty of imp evasion
Decent ab - thanks to wm and fighter levels, as well as the near-maxed str, most enemies should be fairly easy to hit
Benefits of rogue+fighter - compared with a pure fighter (or other melee focused class) gain Imp evasion and crippling strike, while fighter levels mean can take discipline as a class skill (so more resistant to kd+disarm)
Cons - not as strong against sneak and crit immune enemies
- not as good ab as a pure melee class
- doesn't gain epic dodge that a fighter or dex-based rogue would gain
- can't hone weapon like a higher level fighter can
- average health
-not maxed ac, not maxed ab, so may struggle against some tougher enemies (both to hit, and avoid being hit)
Basically my char is able to kill enemies very quickly (especially if they're distracted by another melee char), and with his decent ac can last long enough to survive in combat. Taking ranks in tumble skill makes up for not gaining the epic dodge compared with a pure fighter, while damage is vastly higher with sneak attack compared with a honed weapon and slightly better ab.
Although I feel it's a fairly strong build lev1-40, I'm less sure about higher levels, as i've no experience there yet. Would my char have too little ac to survive against most enemies, or are they all sneak+crit immune anyway, or is there some other glaring flaw in the design of my char that I've missed?
