Tar'Chul's Squishy Lichie: 10 WIZ/30 PM or 9 WIZ/1 Pally/30 PM
This is my first Lich build. I decided to make it after i got the Illithid subrace recently.
Goals of this build: Decent DC and SP, concentrate on necro spells. This might not be your build of choice for soloing due to the lack of conceal, but maybe, with better gear on later levels, you will be fine even without. I dropped transmutation focus from the build. The custom epic spell should not be needed in a good party. Let your balor tank instead while you kill them. If you really want the epic dragon knight, one point to fit it in would be the heavy armor route, instead of extend spell.
Update: I played the heavy armor version of this build to lvl 41. I really like it so far. Seems like being an arch lich removes the need for a water ring. That's a major plus.
Updated: Added some modifications for the heavy armor route
For heavy armor, the lvl breakdown would be 9 WIZ/10 PM/1 Pally/20 PM. Max Disc when you take the Pally lvl. When you decide to go this route, you should know how to use the defensive casting mode. I definetely don't, but i heard it can replace the combat casting feats
Updated: Changed race to gnome (from dwarf)
Updated: move 4 point from WIS to DEX for non-armor route
Updated: Changed silent spell to extend spell for heavy armor route
I thought taking Auto Still Spell 1-3 would remove the option to use still spell, because all spells were already stilled. This isn't the case.
Race: Gnome, Subrace Illithid, Alignment: Lawful neutral
I chose uneven starting INT to free one epic feat. I only need Great INT 1-9 now for max DC.
Level Progression
WIZ till lvl 10, PM from lvl 11 (you can get the needed spells by scolls)
Stats: All INT
Skills: Max Conc, Spellcraft, Lore, Put Cross-Class points into Tumble and Disc
Other useful skills: Pickpocket, Appraise, Search, Disable Trap. With all the crafting material available on the server, maybe max the crafting skills. Who knows, they may become useful some day
Anyway, you won't be short of skill points.
Pre-Epic Feats (including the two WIZ bonus feats)
- Toughness
- Combat Casting (Heavy armor route: Still Spell)
- Spell Penetration / Greater Spell Penetration
- Spell Focus Necro / Greater Spell Focus Necro
- Empower / Maximise / Silent Spell (Heavy armor route: Don't take silent spell, we will lose a WIZ bonus feat)
The order is not really important, just make sure you take spell focus before lvl 11, because you cannot take spell focus on PM lvls.
Epic Feats:
- Great Int 1-4
- Epic Fortitude (Heavy armor route: Epic Reflexes)
- Epic Will (Heavy armor route: Extend spell, Pally lvl gives +8 to saves)
- Armor Skin
PM bonus feats:
- Epic spell focus necro
- Epic spell penetration
- Epic spell: Dragon Knight (Heavy armor route: Auto Still Spell)
- Improved Combat Casting (Heavy armor route: Auto Still Spell)
- Epic spell: Epic Warding (to get two Wardings with the one from a staff)
- (Heavy armor route: Auto Still Spell) or one of your choice
Legendary Feats:
- Legendary Spell Penetration
- Legendary Spell Focus Necro
- Great Int 5-9
Spell choice: All spells that are modified for palemasters. Your caster lvl on regular spells will be rather low, so even with the max DC on this build, your SP will be pretty bad. But try to make the best of the defensive buffs, like Etherial Visage, Shields, Spell Mantles etc. Some concealment is better than no concealment.
Final INT at 60:
52 +12 (buffs) = 64 (or 66 with eye of vecna, from what i heard)
=> Maximum DC and caster lvl on necro spells (you will lose 1 caster lvl with the heavy armor route)
SP: 76 (75) (for comparison, maze guardians have a SR of 85, so your chance to beat it is roughly 50%)
DC calculation:
10 base + 28 int mod + 8 feat mod + 3 PM bonus + spell lvl = 49 + spell lvl
=> max DC fod: 56
=> max DC wail: 58
If you can get any higher than this, please let me know.
Read the Epic Enchant book to get your balor.
Results from the Test Chamber:
Naked stats at 40:
Fortitude: 27 (27)
Reflex: 18 (21)
Will: 29 (26)
AC: 34 (31)
HP calculation:
WIZ lvls: 4*10 = 40
PM lvls: 6*30 = 180
CON bonus: 3*40 = 120
Deathless Vigor Pre-Epic: 3*6 = 18
Deathless Vigor Epic: 4*5 = 20
Toughness: 40
Total: 418 (424)
So the maximum stats you can get at 40 with buffs from equipment are
(assuming +20 universal saves and all attributes buffed +12):
Fort: 53 (59)
Reflex: 43 (53)
Will: 55 (58) <-- oh, and we have slippery mind, just in case
I'm not sure if the spellcraft bonus to saves counts towards the +20 cap or not, so these are the minimum saves.
HP: 658 (664)
Legendary lvls should increase those saves by another +5 base and spellcraft bonus should increase by +4 as well.
Final HP: 658 + 20*(d6+4) = 858 (864)
