Kurtulmak’s Chosen
(Level 60 Pure Ranger - Dual Wielder)
A fun and powerful build to play. While it does not do spectacular critical hits, this build will chew through almost any monster or boss in the game with consistent damage. Dualing gives the build many attacks per round, and an extensive favored enemy list raises your attack bonus and gives you extra positive damage against almost any monster you will encounter. Furthermore, the ranger instant death called shot upgrades make this character an absolute terror in hand to hand combat and by ranged attack. This build is completely buff independent. You have your own greater magic weapon/keen spell (bladethirst), concealment spells, and an assortment of buffs unique to the ranger class.
This build has two main challenges. The first is a lack of tumble AC until after you are able to take the Legendary Skill Affinity: Tumble skill at level 42. This is made especially challenging since as a new player you will not likely have the gear to help alleviate the loss of 8 AC. Fortunately, this is only a temporary problem. The second is its low strength (6). There are many strength checks in the hardest areas of the game. There are spells to counteract these checks, but not every group that ventures into these areas will have them.
A few other quirks you should be aware of. This build wears light armor exclusively (base ac 1 through 3). So, keep your eye out for bracers with Armor AC on them and for suits of light armor. Also, in most situations this build will do best as a dual wielder. The only situation where you are likely to be using a shield is when attacking with a ranged weapon such as a sling (maybe using called shot at a distance). Keep your eye out for a good quality small shield for such situations.

Pre-Epic Levels
Level 1 Ranger,
Feats: Blooded, Strong Soul, Favored Enemy: Outsiders
Skills: Maximize Animal Empathy, Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, Discipline, Hide, Parry (save the rest for tumble which you will take first starting at level 43), continue this skill progression on every level from this point on until level 43.
Blooded is an investment feat that will allow you to take the tumble skill as a class skill after level 42 (once you attain the Legendary Skill Affinity Tumble feat). It is important to save enough points (1 point per level) until you are able to gain tumble as a class skill. Also, be aware that your overall AC will increase dramatically at level 42 because of the delayed tumble dump (will increase 8 points).
Strong Soul is an investment feat that gives you +1 will and +1 fort saves and qualifies you for the Legendary Soul feat after level 40, which will grant you an additional +5 will and +5 Fortitude.
Favored Enemy: Outsiders, Outsiders are the most common monster type found on the server. The favored enemy feat will increase your attack bonus when fighting a monster of this type and once you gain the Bane of Enemies feat will qualify you for a few other bonuses (such as bonus damage).
Level 2 Ranger,
Level 3 Ranger,
Feat: Weapon Finesse
Weapon Finesse is a skill that allows you to use your dexterity modifier instead of your strength modifier to determine your overall AB. You must, however, use a “finessable?weapon. In our case we will be choosing kukris.
Level 4 Ranger
Stat Increase: Dexerity
Level 5 Ranger,
Feat: Favored Enemy: Aberrations
Favored Enemy: Aberrations Aberrations are the second most common monster type in the game. So, they are an important favored enemy for any ranger to have.
Level 6 Ranger,
Feat: Weapon Proficiency (exotic)
Weapon Proficiency (exotic), at this point we have to make a difficult choice. We have to choose what weapon we will be using. Unfortunately, we have two difficulties to overcome. The first is kobold is a small race, so in order to not incur an excessive dualing penalty we must select a weapon type that is marked “tiny". The second is that blade thirst, the rangers primary buff spell, can only be cast on slashing weapons unless the user has Greater Spell Proficiency: Transmutation or higher. This would cost us two feats or would require you to obtain a tome of knowledge in Transmutation and have no blade thirst until level 41. Neither choice is a good one for a novice player. The alternative is to invest in exotic weapons, spend a single feat, and choose the only tiny, slashing weapon in the game (Kukri).
Level 7 Ranger,
Level 8 Ranger
Stat Increase: Dexterity
Level 9 Ranger,
Feat: Weapon Focus (Kukri), Bonus Feat: Improved Two weapon Fighting
Weapon Focus (Kukri), Kukris are tiny weapons with an excellent critical hit range. This means against non critical hit immune monsters you will be landing critical hits often. They can also be dual wielded by a small race with only a -2 penalty to your attack bonus, and can be Blade Thirsted without the need of extra feats.
Improved Two weapon Fighting, This is a free feat gained at level 9 ranger. It reduces the dualing penalty to ? AB.
Level 10 Ranger,
