Halfling Death Reborn
(51 Rogue/2 Fighter/7 Weaponmaster)
Halfling death, for a long time, was one of the most popular builds on the server because of its defensive and offensive prowess and valuable rogue skills. Since September 2007, it has been replaced in predominance by pure rogue builds because of custom class edits to the rogue class. Nevertheless, this build does have some advantages over a pure rogue. A halfling death build will have a higher overall attack bonus(AB) and more attacks per round than a pure rogue build. At 60, with +13 gmw and bardsong, your characters top AB will be 90 without a dex artifact. Also, the critical hit multiplier and improved critical range on your weapon are permanent rather than on and off as with a pure rogue. Halfling death does have lower sneak attack damage and cannot land sneak attacks on the highest tier of monsters in the hells. That aside, this character can be successful in almost any area of the module. Even with sub standard gear this build can do well in some difficult areas. This build is capable of opening any lock in the game, disarming any trap, pick pocketing any monster (that can be pickpocketed), and performing all the normal functions required of a rogue. This new version of halfling death has been updated to make the overall saves more resistant to some of the checks the old halfling death build could never make, and to incorporate some of the newer rogue specific class edits.
Traditionally, the Halfling Death build included all five self conceal feats. In the recent past, two changes have made getting these feats very difficult. The first was the coming of higher save checks in some of the more challenging areas of the server. The second was the coming of chests and traps requiring engine maximum Search and Disarm Traps skills. Freeing up enough feats to take all 5 self conceal feats is very difficult if you also want a functional thief (especially with an open subrace). So, the Self Conceal feats have been dropped. On a positive note with 63 points in the Hide skill plus bardsong and Hide gear, this build can get any where from 50% to 60% conceal from various buffs. Some of these conceal buffs are available on gear and others can be gained from casters in your party.
One quirk of this build is that Weapon Finesse is delayed until level 15, so that the qualifying feats for Weapon Master may be met as quickly as possible. Until level 15, when weapon finesse is acquired, it will be very difficult to hit monsters with melee weapons. I suggest using ranged weapons such as slings until level 15, since those automatically use your dexterity modifier to determine AB.
Another point of note is that rogues receive extra skill points in legendary levels. Do not panic that the bottom skill list doesn't add up to your skillpoint per level progression. Once you reach level 41 you will receive an infusion of skill points for a total of 60 by level 60.
