Having a focus and/or Improved Critical in a usable weapon does not preclude one from using the best weapon at hand of any other sort. It does, however, channel a player's thoughts into thinking that they MUST use the correct weapon type. This is a mistake to which I must plead guilty.
As a newish player myself, I made the suggestion because it's very frustrating to be able to contribute little to parties by not being able to fulfill my designated role. A tank like this does no good if it can't hit regularly and in many places every point of AB is important. If you take the usable weapon focus approach, you could swap the Epic Prowess and Epic Weapon Focus feats and get use of the +2 much earlier. I believe that the reason EWF was placed so late in levels was that it was of no use until level 40. Hopefully this suggestion will help somebody.
P.S. - The comment at level 21 refers to the fact that you won't have a focus in a usable weapon since you would have taken the focus in a large weapon.

aye, and take note to the effect of your gnome's small size, going from small to large will gimp your AB by 2, but since you're finally able to wield your greatsword, that sort of counters it. you can look at it differently though: during levels 1-39, you get +2 AB relatively, but loose -3 from your focuses. thats -1 in total
using reincarnation for more AB pre-legendary makes for a lot of fuss that isn't really necesary and most definitely annoying for any new player. keep it simple is what I say.
I read yesterday's update about XDDs needing 1 E-toughness less. does this mean i get 1 more feat?

Hi, just a quick question regarding this build. The initial thread mentions that it was leveled to 40 using a scimitar as a martial weapon, however having tried to build this I see that bards only get simple weapons at creation, and I cant see martial weapons in the feats list, have I missed something here?

Use something else until you take your first Blackguard level.

note that i didnt use scimitar all the time. when i was supposed to tank, i used a small weapon, like handaxe.

Looks like a fine build got my HC version up 10 in 2 days soloing with out any trouble and most of the time i have used a heavy mace in both hands. Remember that bards can use the summon scrolls for the store up until lvl 6 and planar binding for a really nice succubus, use full at low lvls up to levitation ring or so .
cheers Edonil

Hi, ive got this build to 40 now, has been fun, was wondering if you could possibly post a build on how this could be built with a Dragonblooded subrace as they also get the lore bonus to start with....

i'm glad you liked it =) the only difference is in starting stats: Strength 16 Dexterity 14 Constitution 14 Intelligence 12 Wisdom 8 Charisma 12 for an additional skill (maxed craft weapon + some concentration) or possibly less hp for more AB (you only loose 60 hp this way): Strength 18 Dexterity 14 Constitution 10 Intelligence 10 Wisdom 8 Charisma 12 alternatively, you can follow Flay's Universal Soldier build, Dragon blooded versionand possibly a modified version of the Divine Disciple by Ralkain

I believe you went wrong with the skillpoints: You can't max UMD and tumble at lvl 20 You can't max Discipline, parry and tumble at lvl 40, you only get enough skillpoints to get disc. to 43 and parry to 41.

Bear in mind you're getting Int boosts from RDD levels.
