Hell Freezes Over 4 FTR / 10 Rog / 26 DD
FIRST: Apologies and thanks to TYRANLTHIXIS. The descriptions for feats and the format I used for this build were shamelessly borrowed from his many builds. I did this to ensure the build was descriptive enough for new players and to meet the forum requirements.
This build is based off a year old discussion about a DD with improved evasion. I have a battlerager version that is really powerful, but the open sub-race Arctic Dwarf is very well suited for this build as well. I added fighter levels to get some extra feats and some AB. I’ve looked on the forums and I do not see a posted comparable build. So I’m posting my version for all to enjoy. It is a solid build that will work for new players as well as old.
This builds advantages are based on control class Dwarven Defender. At level 60 you will have an innate +17 Natural Armor and +17% Physical Immunties and 18/- Damage reduction. You will have the ability to be immune to critical hits (base strength of 44) The rogue levels will give you access to tumble and improved evasion. This build has very high saves. At level 40 you will also have 5d6 sneak attack, which is a nice bonus against monsters that are not immune, this will rarely be the case however.
I have left the weapon choice open. There is a lot to choose from, you can make your own mind up on what weapon works best for you. I personlly like warhammer, but I believe light flail might be a better choice for this server. Dont get too hung up about it, the DMs have done a great job ensuring every weapon is viable. I like the bludgeon weapons as many monsters are weak in that area.
If you will have a vail of Dachy blood which will grant you the Dodge feat for free you could take Power Attack in its place, freeing that spot for great fortitude which will then give you a free EPIC feat. The build is pretty complete and I’m not sure what I would add there… I guess you can never have enough saves so you could take Epic Reflexes to really give you some great defense there. But I’ll leave that possibility to you to decide. This build is designed without blood in mind.
Starting Race

Take maximum discipline during FTR, DD levels.
After 40 focus on tumble and discipline. Any leftovers you can decide... craft weapon or craft armor to try and get another point of AB/AC.
Tumble, will give you +8 AC by level 40.
Craft Weapon, will give you +1 AB.
Craft Armor, will give you +1 AC.
UMD, its not much but it may help wear some things.
Discipline, will help vs many disciplne checks on HG.
Level 1: Fighter
Feats: Blooded, Blind Fighting
Blooded, is an investment feat that will allow you to take the LSA Tumble feat which will allow you to take tumble points as a class skill in legendary levels. In all this will enable another +4 AC at 60.
Blindfighting, negates the defensive penalties of blindness and gives you a better chance of hitting a concealed target.
Level 2: Fighter
Feats: Dodge
Dodge, Dodge is required for the Dwarven Defender class.
Level 3: Rogue
Feat: Toughness
Toughness, grants the player 60 hitpoints at level 60 (the equivalent of two great constitution feats), one hit point per level. It is considered a good investment and a good idea to take in any build if you can afford the feat. This feat must be taken before level 40 to gain the full benefits. This feat is also a requirement for the Dwarven Defender class.
Level 4: Rogue
Feat: Evasion (free feat)
Stat Increase: Strength
Evasion, makes reflex damage type attacks less painful (e.g. dragon breath). You take no damage on a successful save instead of the normal half damage.
Level 5: Rogue
Feat: Uncanny Dodge I (free feat)
Uncanny Dodge I, The character retains his dexterity bonus to AC, even if caught flat-footed or attacked by a hidden or invisible creature. You will not have a lot of bonus dexterity AC on this build, but the feat is free none the less.
Level 6: Rogue
Feat: Iron Will
Iron Will, This feat will raise your will save by 2 and will qualify you for Legendary Will later which will raise your will save by another 7.
Level 7: Rogue
Level 8: Rogue
Feat: Uncanny Dodge II (free feat)
Stat Increase: Strength
Uncanny Dodge II, This feat grants +1 save vs traps if that save is based on reflex saving throw.
Level 9: Rogue
Feat: Power Attack
Power Attack , Gives user an attack mode that increases damage done at the cost of attack bonus. For our purposes we are taking it for another reason. Power attack is one of several feats needed to qualify for Devastating Critical which now adds +1 to critical hit multiplier for the weapon chosen.
Level 10: Rogue
Level 11: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Defensive Stance (free feat)
Defensive Stance, this is a dwarven defender special ability which when used will grant +2 STR, +4 CON, +2 on all saves, +4 Dodge Bonus AC. At first level, this ability can be used 1x/day. Every 2 levels beyond 1, the character gains an additional use per day. Also on higher ground this feat instead can be used to enter Defensive Weave which grants a physical damage shield. Defensive stance will not break until you move, Defensive Weave however is duration based and you can freely move and retain your shield.
Level 12: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Cleave, Defensive Awareness I (free feat)
Stat Increase: Strength
Cleave, allows your character to make an additional attack, after landing a killing blow, to a nearby monster. This can increase your overall damage output per round or can be detrimental if the monster you are “cleaving onto” is something you’d rather not hit. Good or bad it is a qualifying feat for devastating critical.
Defensive Awareness I, The character retains his dexterity bonus to AC, even if caught flat-footed or attacked by a hidden or invisible creature. You will not have a lot of bonus dexterity AC on this build, but the feat is free none the less.
Level 13: Dwarven Defender
Level 14: Dwarven Defender
Level 15: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Great Cleave, Defensive Awareness II (free feat)
Great Cleave, usually this feat is not taken by non assassin melee classes. This feat is similar to cleave except that you can keep cleaving after the initial cleave. For example, if you kill a foe and cleave and land a large damage attack and instantly kill that foe as well, you can get another free attack on another monster around you. Semi useful since you are capable of large amounts of damage in a single critical hit. Mainly we are taking it as a qualifying feat for devastating critical.
Defensive Awareness II, The character can no longer be flanked, since he can react to opponents on opposite sides as easily as he can react to a single attack. This will negate the +2 AB bonus that flanking creatures have against you when you are surrounded.
Level 16: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Dwarven Defender Damage Reduction (free feat)
Stat Increase: Strength
Dwarven Defender Damage Reduction, Grants damage reduction 3/-
Level 17: Dwarven Defender
Level 18: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Weapon Focus (preferred weapon)
Weapon Focus, This feat will grant you +1 attack bonus with your preferred weapon. It is required for Epic Weapon Focus which in turn is required for Legendary Weapon Focus.
Level 19: Dwarven Defender
Level 20: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Defensive Awareness III
Stat Increase: Strength
Defensive Awareness III, This feat is extremely powerful, because it means that while the dwarven defender is attacking, he's immune to sneak attacks from all opponents, not just the one he's currently attacking.
Level 21: Fighter
Feat: Improved Critical (preferred weapon)
Improved Critical, Increases the critical range on your weapon. Stacks with Keen to give you the highest possible critical range for the weapon you are using.
Level 22: Fighter
Feat: Epic Weapon Focus (preferred weapon)
Epic Weapon focus, gives you an additional +2 ab with your preferred weapon and qualifies you for the Legendary Weapon Focus feat.
Level 23: Dwarven Defender
Level 24: Dwarven Defender
Feat: Epic Will
Stat Increase: Strength
Epic Will, this feat will grant you +4 to your will saves.
Level 25: Dwarven Defender

Feat: Great Fortitude
Great Fortitude, This feat will raise your fortitude save by 2 and will qualify you for Legendary Fortitude later which will raise your fortitude save by another 7.
Level 28: Dwarven Defender
Stat Increase: Strength
Level 29: Dwarven Defender
Level 30: Dwarven Defender
Feats: Lightning Reflexes, Devastating Critical (preferred weapon)
Devastating Critical, on higher ground adds an additional critical hit multiplier to the weapon you are focused in. i.e. a X3 weapon will become X4 weapon.
Lightning Reflexes, This feat will raise your reflex save by 2 and will qualify you for Legendary Reflexes later which will raise your reflex save by another 7.

Level 32: Dwarven Defender
