Q: What is reincarnation all about?
A: Reincarnation was added to Higher Ground on Sept 4th 2007. Its purpose is to allow you to recreate and re-level up your character which might have been made obsolete due to mod updates. Basically, after you initiate reincarnation your character is deleted and you are able to start a new character with the amount of experience you originally had.
Q: What is the reincarnation 'thingy'?
A: The 'thingy' refers to the reincarnation pillar of light. It is located next to the lighthouse just east of the boat where you start out.
Q: What are the normal steps taken when initiating a reincarnation?
A: Firstly, store all your equipment in a transfer chest (not storage chest) and deposit the character's gold into the bank. The reincarnation system is designed to save some of your items, including bound items, however I play it safe and bank all my transferable items.
2) Talk to the light when you are ready to initiate the reincarnation. Your character will be deleted and a reincarnation slot will be assigned to your account. Your 1 week period starts here.
3) Now you can re-log into HG and create a new character from scratch. Keep in mind that you cannot immediately use the same name as your previous character.
4) After you are back in-game you need to talk to the reincarnation light again. Follow the instructions to choose your desired reincarnation slot, and you can begin leveling up your newly reincarnated character.
5) Be sure to visit the reincarnation thingy after you have leveled up to regain your tags, bound equipment and demi bonuses.
Lastly, It is recommended that you fully complete your reincarnation before attempting to join any runs as there are anti-exploits in place which may prevent you and your party from starting or continuing some runs.
Q: Can I use the same character name for my reincarnated character?
A: Yes, however you must wait a 24 hour period and be logged on a server which has reset after that 24 hour period.
Note: Using 'spaces' at the beginning or ending of a name to avoid the 24 hour wait period is not recommended and may result in an unplayable character.
Q: Can I reincarnate my level 18 character?
A: You must be at least level 21 to use the reincarnation system. If your character is an immortal you must have at least taken your character to level 41.
Q: How long do I have to use a reincarnation slot?
A: One week from the time your character was first deleted by the white pillar of light. There will be a message when you log onto HG telling you how much longer you have in your reincarnation week.
Q: I reincarnated my character 3 weeks ago but I realized I could have tweaked out my character even more! How long must I wait before I am allowed to reincarnate?
A: Three months for characters who are immortal. One month for characters who have not become immortal. You can click on the reincarnation thingy to see how long you have left before you can reincarnate that character again.
Q: I reincarnated my immortal character about a month ago. A hotly anticipated update just dropped which gave my character 3rd degree bruises from the almighty nerf bat. Help?!?
A: Reincarnation was added for the specific purpose of rebuilding a nerfed character, and not for character tweaking. You can certainly use reincarnation to accomplish such tweaking, but at the risk of not being able to rebuild your character when an update breaks your build. However, on some occasions, reincarnation might be unlocked for that class. This window of opportunity is usually limited to a couple weeks.
Q: I messed up while leveling my reincarnated character. Can I go back and 'fix' it?
A: If you are within the one week reincarnation period, you can. Simply delete your character using !delete simtools command or by talking with the Rowan Guardian. Once you have your new character made you can talk to the reincarnation thingy to being your reincarnation.
Q: I have just reincarnated my level 25 character, and plan on getting my ice kobold king tag which I missed before I reincarnated. When I regain the rest of my accomplishments/tags from the reincarnation light will I be able to keep the newly gained ice kobold king tag?
A: No.Your tags will always be overwritten when regaining your tags from the reincarnation light.
Q: If I reincarnate a character which is tagged to the hell layer 'Phlegethos', will I be able to continue to the next layer Stygia?
A: No. When you reincarnate your skull will be wiped and thus must start again at the first layer of hell. Your abyss attunements will also be wiped from your skull. However, you do maintain your tags and can use any equipment which requires those tags. Tags for multiple demigod iterations are also carried over through a reincarnation.
Q: Can I reincarnate my character into a totally different class? For example can I turn my rogue into a wizard?
A: If you character is not immortal then you can change the classes around however you like.
If your character is immortal then you will be required to maintain the same control class OR the same combination of classes.
Q: What do you mean by maintaining the same control class?
A: Your control class (CC) is the class you have the most levels in. If you maintain the same CC you can alter the class combination of your reincarnated character. For example: You can take your (15 WM / 25 Wizard) staffmaster and reincarnate it into a (38 Wiz / 1 Monk / 1 Paladin) character.
Q: What do you mean by maintaining the same class combination?
A: You can alter your CC, however you must keep the same classes of your original character. For example: You can take your (3 Paladin / 21 RDD / 16 Sorcerer) melee bloodfire mage and reincarnated it into a (1 Paladin / 10 RDD / 29 Sorcerer) caster bloodfire mage. In this example you have taken your RDD control class character and reincarnated it into a Sorcerer control class character, but have maintained the same class combination.
Q: Can I reincarnate into a higher level subrace? Open to BUR? Secret to BUR? UR to BUR?
A: Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade to any level of subrace. Upgrading subraces has some requirements.
Q: What do I need to upgrade my subrace?
A: For 'open to secret' upgrades you must have your account tagged for the new subrace AND you must have the item(s) you used in order to gain that secret subrace on your newly reincarnated character when first talking to the reincarnation light.
For all other subrace upgrades you must have your account tagged for the new subrace AND you must have the subrace book on your newly reincarnated character when first talking to the reincarnation light.
* The items required for the upgrade will be consumed. This process is only required if you are upgrading your character to a higher tier subrace.
Q: If I mess up and re-do my reincarnation will my subrace upgrade be remembered?
A: Yes. Your subrace upgrade is remembered and you may safely re-do your subrace upgraded reincarnation within the week long reincarnation period.
Q: I've already upgraded my subrace and I am still within my reincarnation week and I'd like to try a different subrace. Will I be able to change it?
A: No. Once you upgrade your subrace you will need to wait for the next cycle if you want to choose a different higher tier subrace.
Q: My character is stuck on the voyage on all servers. Why can I not play my reincarnated character?
A: You have one week to complete reincarnation. Outside that week, if the character is not "valid" you are stuck on the boat and cannot play that character. Non-valid status could be caused by; not taking all levels or not maintaining the correct CC or class combination for immortal characters.
Q: Will I be able to regain my HG custom epic spells?
A: If your reincarnated character has the requirements for the epic spells (feats and levels) and your original character had those epic spells, you will regain those epics when reclaiming your bound items from the reincarnation light.
Q: Will I have the option to change my Epic Spell Feat Tome?
A: Yes. Actually in all reincarnations your Epic Spell Feat Tome is NOT saved and thus must read one for each reincarnate.
Q: My shifter has used one of the shifter books located in the game. Will I be able to regain this book when reincarnating?
A: No, shifter books are not saved in the reincarnation process.
Q: My original character had used an artifact and/or pandect. When I reincarnate will I get those items back?
A: Yes. You will be able to choose an option to regain those items back. These items will be bound to your character making them nontransferable. If you do not want to use the artifact or pandect for your reincarnation you can opt not to reclaim them. To avoid item loss, double check that you are not carrying an artifact when reclaiming your stat artifact.
Q: My original character had used an artifact and/or a pandect and I've already claimed my artifact/pandect from the reincarnation thingy. If I need to re-do my reincarnation will I still be able to regain the artifact/padnect?
A: Yes. You can safely regain your artifacts/pandects if you need to re-do your reincarnation. This only works if you used the artifact or pandect on the original character before you started the reincarnation process.
Q: I have just reincarnated my character and used a stat artifact. I just realized I need to fix something and must re-do my reincarnation. Will I regain the artifact?
A: No. Any thing you do within the reincarnation week will not be saved if you decide to re-do your reincarnation during that week. If you have used an artifact after you have started the reincarnation process, you will loose that artifact if you decide to re-do that reincarnation within the one week re-do period.
Q: I have just reincarnated my character and used an Epic Spell Tome. I just realized I need to fix something and must re-do my reincarnation. Will I regain the Tome?
A: No. Any thing you do within the reincarnation week will not be saved if you decide to re-do your reincarnation during that week. If you re-do your reincarnation within the week you will need to have another tome to read.
Q: I have just reincarnated my character and used a pandect. I just realized I need to fix something and must re-do my reincarnation. Will I regain the pandect?
A: No. Any thing you do within the reincarnation week will not be saved if you decide to re-do your reincarnation during that week. If you re-do your reincarnation within the week you will need to have another pandect to read, or wait the three month wait period.
Q: I have just reincarnated my character and went on a several runs where I gaining a few levels. I just realized I need to fix something and must re-do my reincarnation. Will I loose the experience and levels?
A: Yes. Any thing you do within the reincarnation week will not be saved if you decide to re-do your reincarnation during that week. If you re-do your reincarnation within the week you will loose all xp and levels gained.
Q: I have just reincarnated my character and have gained my dustbone tag. I just realized I need to fix something and must re-do my reincarnation. Will I loose that tag?
A: Yes. Any thing you do within the reincarnation week will not be saved if you decide to re-do your reincarnation during that week. If you re-do your reincarnation within the week you will loose all newly gained tags.
