Only a minor problem so far - I get some really hairy gfx artifacts at times. Easily fixed (change antialiasing), but still thought I'd mention it

Weregoats have had this problem forever - it's not new and has been a very common complaint. I'll go over the models and see what I can find.
Thanks, Acaos

Just an update Acaos - I got unplayable lag again in map 1 of Dis (with my shifter), pretty appalling lag on map 2 and map 3 wasn't too bad. I have rerun all the updates again. I am more confused than ever - something clearly causes massive lag for me but what and why is a mystery. Just one Narz didnt cause it .... I had some fairly ugly lag in Stygia with the shifter too ... maybe its player class related? Oh well If I figure it out I will let you know. I may build a special version of CEP for you to help track this down. Could you take notes when it happens, or perhaps ask people in your party to log out for a short time to see if it continues so you could track down what might be causing it? Thanks, Acaos

Morning guys!
Things have been smooth for me since running the updates. Only noticeable exception has been when entering the Overmind Complex on a Thids run - I now crash there without fail, and will usually need to restart NWN 3 or so times to fix it (1.Enter the Overmind Complex and crash... 2.Log in with the same character and crash... 3.Log in with a different character...4.Log back in to the Overmind Complaex smoothly).
What seems to happen is that on entering, the loading screen appears, but takes much longer than usual, then, just as the bar fills, the screen goes to fade, but before it can, some of the background graphics of the walls (specifically, the designs on the walls) appear while the loading screen is still half-faded, and the whole thing freezes there.
A strange problem, but any help is appreciated.
GREAT GREAT job on HG Enhanced, CEP, Higher Grounds... and damn near the whole caboodle. Thankyou, and keep it up!... PLEASE!

Try turning off environmental shadows in the option menu of NWN. Also, you could try the !opt vfx command to fix this. It's a known issue, but not easy to fix.

Acaos I will try to get some proper testing done for you and I am happy to try an experimental logging version if it helps.

Enrith I don't have the Environmental Shadows on, but I haven't tried the !opt vfx command. Silly question, but in this case is it better to have the optional graphics on or off? Either way, I'll try both! Thanks. RoCK

Rock, in this case, having the optional vfx turned off will most likely fix your overmind room crashing issue.

If the graphic settings won't work, you should download CEP and HGE and after you reinstalled CEP, manually place the HGE files in your NWN directory. That worked for me.

I tried to run the updater today in Linux to grab the latest changes. I downloaded the zip file again and got the latest version of the updater program. When I run the appropriate command,
I get an error message that says:
You must run the CEP updater from your Neverwinter Nights directory.
Press Enter to continue.
And I am indeed running the program from inside the base NWN directory.
Anything I should try?

Try doing 'touch nwmain.exe' in your NWN directory and see if that fixes it. We've found a possible bug which can cause this and it will be fixed in the next revision of the updater.
Thanks, Acaos

Something I noticed after taking a break ... the HG Updater creates a lot of fragmentation in all of those hak files. Probably unavoidable. I suggest people defrag their hard drives after updating.
For example, I have NWN on my D: drive (C and E are for other things). I defragged D: about a week ago, as part of a monthly routine. Today I updated to HGE 22 and CEP 2.2c. No other activity on my D: drive at all .... Defragger says 47% file fragmentation.
If you are lagging after using HG Updater ---> Defrag.
EDIT to add: Windows XP user.

Rock, in this case, having the optional vfx turned off will most likely fix your overmind room crashing issue. Enrith I haven't had a chance to return back to the Overmind Complex yet, but I've done the combination of turning off "!Opt VFX", as well as redownloading HG Enhanced/CEP via the HG Updater, and its had an amazing effect on my gaming - for those that I've played with know that I usually crash a heck of a lot (up to 10 times per Hell run), but with this fix combination, I hardly have any (maybe one a day) - back to normal gaming at last!! Thanks Acaos and Enrith (and Trickypriest) for the help and tips! RoCK

I'm trying to reinstall CEP using the updater after formatting my harddrive. I keep getting an error...
[.\erf.c:719 WIN32] short read on 188614 bytes of lazy ERF resource data from 'hak/cep2_cord0.hak'
Any ideas?
