When I run the HGE_Update_GUI or HGE_Update_Standard I see a cmd window to pop up and down instantly. Nothing happens. I have unzipped all the files in the updater that I downloaded and moved them to my nwn directory: erf.exe erf.linux HGE_Update_GUI HGE_Update_Standard
into my NWN directory and am running both the shortcuts from that directory. Windows XP. Vista was giving the same issues on the other pc.
When I used the autoupdater .exe file it was telling me that the file CEP2_patch_v22c.hak was missing so I am currently just downloading the .7z file on that one to see if I can install manually.
***edit: manually downloading the cep zip and the HGE worked fine so i can install and play w/out a proble, but the autoupdate does nothing still - though it just dawned on me that the auto-update might be grabbing files from hgweb and therefore not be working because of the provider issue?

Same situation for me yesterday. I was in the process of the update when it stopped and was not able to pull files.
I had to download the CEP full install manually and install.
Once I did this it was good to go
Seems like the sites are still down this morning

One question. The file that allows us to use the extra voicebinds is not listed. It's listed now. My other host has restrictions on the type of file so I had to ZIP it to make it available.

I did the manual download and instal land must have made a blunder. I can play the game and all but all of my text boxes, item descriptiong, combat text, etc is blank or just has strange characters (combat window). The starting screens for selecting game type and multiplayer and escape menus are all blank. Can anyone please tell me which file types are called for this text? Can anyone point me to where I can find teh critical rebuild tool I've seen referenced in this and other threads?
Thank you in advance for your help! GyroKut

The reason they use 7z is that it has a far superior compression to zip. I'm not talking a few bytes... I'm talking hundreds of megabytes which makes a big difference for hosting and bandwidth. I understand why they use it I am just stating a flaw to it. I would add that the reason I don't use winrar is becuase well last I checked it was still not free and for the limited times I come across something not .zip it is not worth it.

I found the 1.61 critical rebuild tool on FilePlanet but since I don't have NWN installed in the default /Program Files (harder for work to ID it on my PC) directory it fails to find it and says that its not installed. Oh the sorrow.....I'm going to wait a little longer for someone to post a reply that might help and if not, reinstall the game. Waiting.....................................................................................................................................................................Anybody post yet??? :-)

Couldn't wait, I reinstalled everything and good to go. Five minutes after logging on all of the servers went down or the network they're on went down. Fate just doesn't want me playing today. :-(

What chirikov says above my post is correct about WinRar. I also use UltimateZip, which also works with 7z files, and is also "freeware" (popping a window each time you open a file, and simply clicking "Close"). You do realize that we have nothing to do with what gets hosted on the Vault for CEP, right? It sounds as if you're asking us to make a zip file there; but we don't manage that in any way, shape, or form. And as diamex or someone else said, it helps the host immensely by cutting down on traffic usage, file system storage, etc. So if you want a zip file, post there asking about it; it will be much more beneficial than complaining here.

The CEP team can no longer use ZIP for CEP; it's too large (well over 1GB) when zipped. RAR and 7Z are the only choices, unfortunately, and 7Z saves 200MB over RAR. While WinRAR costs money to eliminate the nag screen, there is a free 7Z decompressor at www.7-zip.org/ and there's a free RAR/7Z decompressor at peazip.sourceforge.net/Acaos

Just an update Acaos - I got unplayable lag again in map 1 of Dis (with my shifter), pretty appalling lag on map 2 and map 3 wasn't too bad. I have rerun all the updates again. I am more confused than ever - something clearly causes massive lag for me but what and why is a mystery. Just one Narz didnt cause it .... I had some fairly ugly lag in Stygia with the shifter too ... maybe its player class related? Oh well If I figure it out I will let you know.
