So hitting tears with physical objects cause splitting. Thus physical damage threading should split tears, however: I would like to see threaders that are using NEGATIVE damage vs. Tears not cause splitting (because there's no physical aspect..it's the same as casting a negative damager spell at them in my mind). PS. I tested w/ negative damage just to make sure, and it does indeed currently split tears

I can't speak to the intended lore behind threading, but intuitively neg damage should be fine against tears, w/o splitting.
A somewhat analogous comparison might be the Herald (also a Quasi-Class ability) Neg cloud (cloudkill), that works fine on tears, with no splitting.

Mammon's Tear (Dolorous Tear) Mammon's tears are sentient pools of acidic substance that roam the Third looking for unwary prey. They strike with acid, dissolving their victims in preparation for dining on them. The unwary often find their weapons trapped in these viscous creatures, and green burning trails creeping up their arms.
Legend has it that these creatures originated from the tears shed by Mammon as he groveled at the feet of Asmodeus, begging forgivemess for his betrayal in the Reckoning. While this is most likely a rumor spread by Mephistopheles or Dispater, both of whom were also betrayed by Mammon in the Reckoning and now count him as a hated foe, these creatures do share their namesake's greedy and lustful nature, constantly seeking out flesh to devour. A being's first encounter with them is often also their last, as Tears are extremely difficult to destroy by ordinary means...
-------
I'd say threading is no ordinary mean of destroying anything. They can't thread and use mamon's wrath at the same time anyway.

Interesting I remember a conversation from years (several) ago about this when we were discussing whether it was worth using a threader with negative damage on tears as they do a decent amount of it vs. the chances of them splitting. I think that party didn't have much in the way of fire damage so we had to use what was available.

Negative threading looks more like inflict wounds rather than a sort of physical attack, shouldn't really cause splitting; threaders switching to a mammon's tear morningstar lose they threading ability as well, so this issue really cripples them.

Bumping this as it's a solid idea, which I don't believe has been implemented just yet.
