Sage's bookshelf won't store gold, as it turns out - I tried that. It gives the same error message as if you try to drop gold on the ground.

Of course, they made those changes. Nevermind then.

I think I have found a way to spawn Zerya without the Kurai in her room. That'll be a pretty huge problem solved. Now to do the scientific thing and recreate it with slight variations.

Alright, here are my Zerya findings. Room entry is at the bottom of this drawing, and the stairs to town are at the top. There are no spawn points outside of the "carpet" in the middle of the room. The "carpet" itself is the black outline here; it has some visible seams in the texture, which are represented by the grey lines. Blue dots are Zerya spawning, and red are Kurai. So the basic idea is to walk around the carpet, and walk across it from the north but stop before getting to the middle seam. It's also easier to spawn her without the Kurai on the left side of the room. In testing this I also found Zerya's respawn to be about 40 minutes from the time I left the map. Assuming a few minutes for despawn, that should mean about 35 minutes from a Zerya kill, since kill despawns her immediately. I will test this - once I know the exact respawn I can start timing the tasks I have to do between Zerya kills and see if I need to pad the respawn a little by adding more tasks in that window that I would normally do before or after.

This just happened. Ranged touch attack at AB 40 with DC 31 that killed me without dealing damage. Quivering Palm is not a touch attack, and must deal damage to work. This happened as I melee attacked them from invis, so despite being in melee, the kid used a ranged touch. Descriptor is Death, so Death Magic immunity might work, but my Fortitude cannot be high enough to provide meaningful protection from this. Never seen them use this ability before, does anyone know what it could be? I happen to know of a fixed drop that could block this without dropping the 10/- belt I'm using, and as it happens, it's an amulet, the only slot that's blank at this point - plus this amulet blocks disease and poison as well, preventing need for Heal Kits and Antidote potions. It's the Reek of Decay amulet, found by Dak Grushtin's tent in the Frozen Road. I wonder how many people even know this item exists? Wouldn't take too long to run and get it, although I need to examine spawn triggers since I'll be breaking invisibility for it. Even more interesting, it also makes the ice crystal for Zeke worth getting, swapping that quest in and Cogs' Lever from the Cellar out - saving some walking at the start of the run upstairs to see Cogs. Less fun is the fact that I just spent a lot of time routing the opening shopping trip's inventory management very strictly, and I think this amulet messes with that just enough to require starting from scratch. And this is also a BIG reminder that I need to be working on cataloging fixed loot. Been slacking on that.

There are a fair number of touch attack death spells, but none of the ones I can think of are ranged. The first couple that come to mind are PM's deathless master's touch, and slay living. I wouldn't necessarily count on death magic immunity saving you from this, although it might.
Just looked at a few sources, and pretty much nothing a player can do is a ranged death touch attack. The exception is the AA's arrow of death, but for some reason I find that an unlikely candidate. I'll check the toolset to see if any monster special abilities fit the bill.

I just did a test in the toolset, and monster special abilities include a couple of ranged death touch attacks, but none of them look like that in the combat log. Also, it's rare to see a monster use a ranged touch attack in melee. The only exception I can think of is manticores and their spikes. I'd honestly say just ignore it. Something went very strange there, and it's the first time they've even tried it on you (I assume that, with that DC and AB, you'd have noticed it had they done it before).
All in all, I'd say it's a one-off. If it happens again, post it here and look for similarities between these times.
Edit: Also, it might have been a different child who hit you with that, unless you only spawned one. It is a ranged touch attack, after all.

It's still a rare occurrence that can sting me pretty hard. Since the quest switch saves almost as many zone transitions as it adds, and blocking poison and disease saves me buying a few things and potentially having to use them, this looks like a wash time-wise, in which I come out ahead in potential safety. The amulet might even be useful later in the route, I've had it in the back of my mind since I found it and figured at some point I'd find a use for it.
I'll try to pay close attention to logs during the farm house and basement in future to see if I get a message saying immune to death magic.

Fair enough then. I'm just worried that death magic won't cover it. These weird monster saves always get me worried.
Keeping an eye out for the message is a good idea. I'd be interested to know whether you can avoid it behaviourally.

Another thing I did a bunch of today was inventory planning. I kinda got tripped up in the Farm grind and made some mistakes and lost track, but I plan to make a video of this process soon.
Essentially what I'm doing is very strictly planning out the sequence of items bought / collected into my inventory, so I know exactly where everything is at all times, and it takes less pages and is more compact. This can also reduce mouse movement greatly during shopping, as well as later in the game. I'm going well beyond the simple "buy the teleport gems around the bag" trick you've seen before here, it should be pretty fun to watch when I get it finished.

I'm sure Death Magic immunity doesn't cover this as I always have this by time I visit this tag and they've instantly killed me a few times.

Remember that the kids get QP as well, which definitely cuts through death magic immunity.

JH did already comment 'Quivering Palm is not a touch attack, and must deal damage to work' although I'm not sure of the mechanics it's just annoying when they do it to you!

I know he ruled it out, but if you're gettign instaed with death immune up quite often, it's likely that you're getting QPed. Is the issue you faced necessarily the same one?

Yeah on second thought, I took a crack at pumping my Fortitude, and was able to reach 32. I only need 29 to only fail this on a natural 1, so I can drop a little of it. Here's the setup:
- Admiral Silk or Master Adventurer's Robe (can avoid buying Cloak of the Ghost) - Cloak of Resistance +5 - Boots of Striding +5 (instead of +4) - Ring of Fortitude +6 (wearing this costs one level 6 slot) - Scarab of Protection +5 - Cast Maxed Endurance
This setup also guarantees 138 HP, previously I could have from 116 to 138 HP.
I need to go over my opening gold management to see if this is feasible. Wearing all this in the farm house is predicated on hitting 11 before entering the house, which is rather tight. I may see about adding a few more kills earlier. I also get only one extended Acid Sheath in the basement, at worst this may slow down the end of the last few kills a little, duration on Acid Sheath hasn't been a problem overall.
The biggest benefit is that this may also help with Quivering Palm, which I probably can't be immune to anyway.
