Hello fellow HG players ! This last week I've been partying with many rangers chars, and I suddenly had that feeling that making a ranger would be fun. There's only one problem : I have no idea how to build a good one on this server. I'm not looking for a specific build, simply some general advices. Ah, and btw, what favored enemies should I take? Except maybe elves and dragons. Thanks for the help ! -Gavin Magnus

Elves, dragons, and undead are all good options. I would probably add elementals and outsiders to the list, too. Harper Scout is a popular add-on for Rangers.

Cool, thanks. Still got a few questions though
Do Harper Scouts have tumble as a class skill? And in a general fashion would be DEX be a better choice or does it hardly matter? And what is the ranger secret bonus? (If this last info isn't supposed to be known, of course) I think that's pretty much all I need to know

Harper Scouts do have tumble, yes. Since the Dual-Wield feat only works in light armor or less, and you won't usually have a shield equipped, a dex-based build would be wise. Strength-based should be viable, but you will have a difficult time managing your AC. Some monk levels may be good, too. You get some nice feats for free, and you can add your wisdom bonus to your AC. You can buy [surprisingly direct] hints from the captain in the barracks for 100M gold per secret. I may be willing to spill the beans for a mere 80M gold

Lol, direct. I thought so too, but you would be surprised to find out how many times I've gotten angry messages from players protesting how 'vague' the hints were, or complaining that they couldn't find xyz secret though they had combed the area/s over and over. I guess this may vary from class to class, however. HS is pretty easy as they go. Funky

Oh, and for favored enimies, the most helpful IMO are: Undead, Aberrations, Dragons, Elves, Outsiders, Reptilian Humanoids Those cover all of the toughest enemies in the game, and should cover those to come. That is not the order of preference, but the order I pick mine in (or would, the last is a recent addition - might be 'Reptilians', forget). If you have more, consider elementals, constructs, and humans. If any of those three sound off to experienced players, well, there's a reason. Other advice: Go at LEAST 25 levels ranger, for the secret gear, and the 2nd tier summon (leopard I believe). Funky

How many skill point does a ranger need to put into his animal empathy? let's say for a [glow=red,2,300]lvl 25 or lvl 26 [/glow]ranger? I read somewhere that u were going to upgrade druid's and ranger's summon base on their lvl and their animal empathy.....

The level 35 pet (top for rangers) requires 45 empathy if I recall correctly. Funky
