I just had someone bid 100 GP over my reserve on a really nice item, and I can see this becoming a problem over the next week. The winning bidder won't be the person willing to spend the most, but rather the person who is gonna stay online 24/7 on the closing day to make sure he wins it at the end. A set minimum wont work for all items unfortunately, but a minimum based on the amount of the reserve will.

I did it that way for two reasons. First, minimum increments would be gameable in the upper limits of bidding. Second (and this is economic theory) that behavior will sort itself out, because someone who comes along and views the item as substantially more valuable than the current price has incentive to up the bid substantially or risk losing it while they are off adventuring. A larger concern for me is attempted zero-hour lockups, which is why the board states that those enganging in such behavior will lose bidding priveledges. In any case, if after a week or two, prices on items are not approaching thje upper biddibng limits, I'll reconsider minimum bidding increments, because the gaming issue won't be a factor in limiting maximum price. Auction Price: 10,000,000 10,000,000 x .08 = 800,000minimum bid

Well what if you really need that item but only have 10,500,000? Like what Funky said, the higher the reserve price, the more obvious it is that a minimum bid amount (or percentage) just won't work. If the current system doesn't work out, then something will have to be looked into.

I can live with the way it is now, unless it does become a problem in the future.

Technically its no more different than selling something on Ebay and those that are concerned enough to watch the bid and raise it higher than your respective selling price what seems to be the problem? I mean you set that price so you ensure you get a set amount of money what concern is it of yours per say if it only makes an extra 100 or even a extra 100mill on the set price you are getting exactly as you wanted which was your reserve price at least and in this case more. I dont feel setting a minimum increase amount will make it any different to be honest if someone still wants it they will still bid on it but you are forcing them to spend even more just because you set your price high, think of how much more 8% would be if someone say put an item up there for 1.9 billion, you wouldnt even be able to cover the bid respectively and would get a default on bid due to lack of possible funds because 2bill is the most ya can even have in the account.. just an example not that it will happen but who knows.

Mostly its only a problem for the hardcore players of the server, because they know the "other" players that also want to best for there characters will sit there and get the items they deserve for that wasted time sitting there bidding.
I think the current system is fine, I was only suggesting the 8%.
If someone wants to sit there and outbid me, litterly waste there lives sitting there waiting on an item. They may do that! Thats how the real world works!
