I'm not sure on the math and I understand the need to nerf the dev crit power as it seemed to be broken . The success rate at which this power worked was pretty high. Also I know that the implosion has been reduced aswell but it still seems to be a pretty good tactic. I believe these powers are both a con based save. I was wondering how come the Dev crit got reduced more than the implosion. I haven't seen any baddies fail a save vrs this in quite some time and yet I see implosion still used very successfully all the time. You have to be in area that is way below your challenge rating for dev crit to have any use it seems. On a lvl based server like this you never go to these places as you receive no XP there. If the reasoning is that a caster only has a certain number of spells per day I have yet to hear someone say I need to rest and the party say no...lol I was wondering if the dev crit could be brought up closer to save from implosion if not the same. Also the implosion is a AOE and dev crit is 1 baddy at a time

If I guessed, I'd say its because implosions run out and dev crit can be on every swing all day every day. In addition, dev crit doesn't have a SR check to beat.
Plus, with rapier crit range being 10 and up for a WM, or 12 and up, the chances of a crit are pretty high.

We tested Dev Crit for assassins and balanced it to crit about once every 6 rounds in level-appropriate areas. Bear in mind it doesn't efect crit immunes. Funky

Thanx for the reply. I just cant remember the last time I seen someone actually kill something with that power. Can you? Its not like my str build assassin is weak. Im lvl 50 and have str in the low 50's . Before the change I believe my DC was 51 now I believe its 40 or something. I must just have bad luck because I deffinalty am not killing creatures(that aren't crit immune) every 6 rounds

It doesn't give you a message when you DO kill something, iirc. Funky

Actually the message pops up when you hit one and also when you fail one, it does not show the dc but works much like the touch attacks of a sander and pops up the message everyone see's saying Devistating Critical, although it also shows this message on crit immune monsters which does not have any effect but you can tell it happened. Have had a lot of people ask me in the maze with Asmodeus if i just dev crit that guardian hehe but really it just died from damage and the message was letting me know if it could have been dev'd it would have. For the record too I have seen several assassins who can dev crit quite often even in the desert or ssithrak, I may not do it as often as i would like but it is more a problem in my case with wep choice.
Compared to implosion though it is pretty compareable because a lvl 40 cleric isnt imploding for high dc and a assassin of the same lvl is not going to hit the higher dcs either but that is raised through level progression, but in the end i believe a dc in the end for both dev and implosion are maybe mere points away from each other and very effective especially if you have a party member who can lower saves.

It certainly works for a good dex build, if you don't believe me I'll invite you along next time myself and a mate duo the Ssithrak area (we've now managed the barracks and academy and are steeling ourselves to try the temple) with an assassin and bard. Have a look at my assassin/rogue/weapon master build, with this I can get reasonably regular sucesses but it does pay to make sure you have the best critical chance (10-20). My problems come in areas like the maze where a cleric will breeze through taking out multiple guardians at once with implosion and earthquake but that's why HG is a cooperative game environment.

Your chances in the Temple would greatly increase if you brought along a Preservation and a Dachy Sonic ring.
Or me. Certain things I can do absolutely crush the clerics in there.

Or that Fervent Fever or something ring, its an Immune to Word of Faith ring. Awesome for the Bridge too.
